A couple weekends ago, Rosie and I got a little getaway with some of our best girlfriends!!! It was my first time to Montauk and it was so charming and pretty. The town has endless flower shops, cafe’s, and fruit stands – its so adorable! We stayed at Gurney’s and it was so beautiful! It’s right on the beach and hardly anyone was there. It was so quiet and relaxing. Me and my friends were saying how when one of us gets pregnant again we all need to because being pregnant together this last time was a serious GAME CHANGER. I don’t know how I did my first pregnancy without a group chat of pregnant best friends. It really is the best. David and I were talking about when we would have #3 (no I am not pregnant!) and brainstorming ideas of where we want to go for our next babymoon. We did a staycation before we had Atticus and did Bora Bora before Rosie but we brought little A with us! Some of you have asked about babymoons with it being summer and there being so many cute options for maternity swim now I thought I would share some tips for any of you babymooners! ***Also see below how to get $1,000 from me and David for your babymoon 🙂
1.Tanning lotion! You can ask your OBGYN which she thinks are safe for you to use but during my pregnancy I used Kate Somerville Tanning Towelettes that my ob said are fine to use. These make it really easy to not get streaks and are baby friendly!
2. Go somewhere tropical so you don’t have to be walking around all day. Sometimes site seeing trips aren’t quite as relaxing because there is so much to see and do. Go somewhere tropical so you can sit under an umbrella and sip a virgin pina colada with a book in hand!
3. Location location location – Just remember that this is probably one of your last chances to enjoy alone time on vacation with just you and your husband till your last child turns 18, so be selective with where you chose. I’ve taken 2 babymoons. One to Las Vegas and the other to Bora Bora. Obviously the one to Bora Bora was much better, but the one in Las Vegas was so much fun. If you chose the right destination, at any budget it can be an amazing trip. Here are some recommendations:
-Tropical – Bora Bora is amazing, but very expensive. So a great alternative to that is St. Croix. We loved our stay there. There are so many gems in the Virgin Islands. Being that you’re pregnant you probably won’t be too adventurous going on too many hikes so get a swimsuit flattering for your pregnant belly. I never liked high waisted suits or any with crazy cut outs while being pregnant. I tried to stick to bikinis and one pieces. Target has some of the cutest maternity suits! I am obsessed with this one they also have super cute shorts, shirts, and dresses that would be perfect for a baby moon.
-City – You can never go wrong with going to a big city. New York, Boston, San Francisco. So many good options to chose from if you’re interested in late nights at fancy restaurants and feeling free for one last night. In addition to your favorite dress, make sure to bring a good pair of maternity jeans. I always try and stick to dark colors and fades because I think they’re more flattering. I love these and these.
-Adventurous – If you’re set on doing something other than relaxing, chose a location where you won’t be able to take babies should you decide to travel when you actually have the baby. Let’s face it some destinations aren’t baby friendly, and if you plan to travel once you have kids, then knock off the non-baby friendly locations before you have them. I’d recommend something like Greece where there are high cliffs, ledges, hikes and lookouts. Here you’ll want something more comfortable than just a swimsuit. Pack a lot of comfortable dresses! Dresses look so pretty on a baby bump! I love this maternity dress here.
5.Sit by a window so you can lean up against it and put your legs on your hubby 🙂 maybe you’ll even get a leg massage
6.If you can go somewhere all inclusive so you don’t have to worry about finding restaurants to eat at and getting in the car multiple times a day.
7.There are some major tips for posing pregnant for photos! Angles are everything. It is best to be side profile, have your back arched, and your leg closest to the photographer (or husband ;)) popped. See this photo here to see me doing this pose. I think it is the most flattering for sure!
8.Keep snacks on you for the flight and drink lots of water
9.Ask your doctor when you can fly. Everyone is different and sometimes doctors recommend not flying during different points of your pregnancy.
10.Be careful of having your belly in the sun – stretch marks can become more visible when exposed to sun.
11.Plan for good weather (check monthly averages for rainfall in whatever country you’re going to)
12.Try to walk around on the plane whenever you get the chance (if its a long flight) so you can stretch and avoid blood clots.
13.If you wear a bikini and are worried about love handles wear a long kimono type cover up so you can still see your cute bikini but cover up the problem areas in back. Love this coverup here!
