DRESS: Gül Hürgel / LIPSTICK: MAC ‘Fanfare’

I have gotten so used to being barefoot here that even when I intend to bring shoes I forget. Like the day we shot this, I didn’t realize until we got there that I forgot my shoes. And I can’t tell you how many times in our marriage we have gotten to a restaurant and they say I can’t come in because I don’t have shoes on. So many trips back home to grab shoes haha – you would think I would learn my lesson. Gotta be in character as the Barefoot Blonde right?! 😉 jokes.

I completely fell in love with this dress the moment I put it on! I felt like I instantly went to the 50’s and suddenly felt the need for a pearl necklace. I love the sailor neckline, the fit, the linen .. everything. Thinking back on other time periods seriously gives my brain anxiety just because it is so weird to picture everything down to what people are wearing being so utterly different. I wish so badly we could hop around time periods and if we could I would first go straight to the 50’s. And I would probably wear this dress 🙂 I love to look back at my grandma’s photos and hear her stories. And speaking of my grandma – I don’t know if any of you remember her being in my snapchats a while ago.. but she is truly such a gem. I miss her so much.

Today is such a busy day which is why I am just now getting this blog post up! So I am off but I hope you all enjoy your day!!! Tell me what your favorite time period is 🙂

  1. This is so funny because just last night my bf’s grandma was showing me pictured from her wedding and stuff from the 60’s and I was so in awe! It would be amazing to go back and just see how they lived or dressed back then. The 50’s adn 60’s are definitely my favorite time periods fashion-wise.
PS: you look amazing, Amber <3

  2. Love your blog and wondering if you have advice for a fellow blogger! I’ve tried keeping up with my blog a few times, but I always get to a certain point where I’ve featured everything I own, all the products I have, and I feel like I have nothing new to offer. I always stop at that point because I don’t know what to post and I can’t afford to go out and purchase new things to post about. Have you ever had that problem? Do you have any suggestions on what to do when you have a small wardrobe and your start to repeat identical outfits?

  3. You are so funny and cute about forgetting your shoes! :)) On another note, I adore this dress! It’s so perfect and feminine, and that sailor neckline is gorgeous! I might get myself a present even before Spring arrives! 😉 xo

    1. That is such a nice compliment!! Thank you so much for following along. It means the world!! 🙂

  4. That dress is seriously EVERYTHING!!!! You look stunning! I know exactly what you mean; I wish decade-hopping were a thing too! Agreed on the 50’s (I just want to wear this dress and sip a milkshake at a diner with my man in a letterman jacket haha) and definitely the 20’s too because–like most basic white girls– I LOVE the Great Gatsby 😉

  5. I adore the 1920s, I love the dresses and hair pieces =o) It would be amazing to go back for one night and attend a party!

  6. I’ve done the same thing, gone barefoot so long I totally forget that I am not wearing shoes.
But in all the years of being barefoot in malls, stores, and restaurants, I never have been asked to leave.

  7. Beautiful images, you look amazing and what a great dress! Love the fact you forget your shoes! Truth is you don’t really need them…check out or visit our Facebook page.

  8. Such a cute outfit & I’m so glad you’re having such an amazing time being barefoot all the time! haha my favorite time period would have to be the 70’s. From the fashion, hairstyles, music, that crazy carpet only some people like.. I love it all!

  9. Love the dress!! Amber, I’m thinking of stating my own blog, and was wondering if you could give me any advice! Love your blog!!

  10. Definitely the 1920’s and 193’s. The extravagance of the Roaring 20’s translated beautifully to the clothing! And then the 1930’s silhouette never goes out of style.

  11. Love! Such gorgeous photos and INCREDIBLE location!! You never fail to stun! Love the 50s and 80s!!!

  12. Amber! I just read your interview article in The Atlantic and I wanted to tell you that I actually loved it. I’m a long time blog enthusiast of many bloggers and not many will actually talk about the business aspect honestly. I feel like if a reader is curious about that side one has to fish through hearsay on GOMI, which is never healthy ;)!! I don’t know if the reporter didn’t like you or twisted your words or not, I wasn’t there, but the outcome of the article was refreshing and fantastic. I think you interviewed great and I appreciated learning a little more about it all. Good job being a successful blogger and getting into such an amazing income bracket at such a young age. And I absolutely love that you help Mormon women have a different kind of voice if they live the religion a little differently from the mainstream. Thanks for putting your life out there and weathering all the storms and sunshine that comes with it.

  13. Love this dress!!!! I will have to agree with you, I love the 50s, but I also loveee the 60s & 70s!

  14. So cute!! I would totally go back to the late 50’s/60’s UGH!!! The cars then, and the dresses and pop tone colors! Everything about it would be a dream. Way too cool! Plus I think it would be fascinating being in a time without so mech technology but still being on the brink of huge changes! Like the moon landing, rocket, etc.

  15. Love love love!! So beautiful 😍 Never used to be a big fan of the 50s as far as fashion goes, but I think you have me convinced! 😉 Also, just have to say that the photography on your blog recently has looked soooo good! Love it! Xx

  16. Could you do a couple photos where you’re standing up straight? It’s hard to tell how the dress looks because it seems like you’re pushing your shoulders forward. Careful! I think that’s common with tall people. Have a good weekend!

  17. Such a pretty dress! You look gorgeous as always! So cute about your grandma, does she read your blog? 🙂

    Lauren Lindmark

    1. Thanks so much Lauren!! And yes she does! It makes me sooo happy! Hopefully she sees this one 🙂

  18. What a sweet story 🙂

You look magnificent in the dress <3

The weekend is gonna be so lovely warm. I hope you have an enjoyable day too and I hope to see you on my blog too 🙂

  19. OH! And I love shirts tied into a knot at the waist! I’m not sure if it’s trendy now or not but I do it anyway cuz it flatters my figure.

  20. I like trends from the 60s and 70s (minus the psychedelic colors and patterns). I like some things from the 50’s but typically not the dresses (my petite frame can’t handle dresses and skirts with that much fabric and bounce). The styles I like from the 50s are more the black high waisted, cut off at the ankle pants she was known to wear (though now that I think about it that may have been an early 60s trend)

  21. Beautiful photos! I like this time period. Right now. Vaccinations. Indoor plumbing. Internet. Science. Human rights. Democracy. Platforms for more people to be heard than every before. Women actually have rights in most places and aren’t treated like property. And so much possibility for our future. Looking back is fun from the comfort of my air conditioned room, with access to books and information that would be very difficult to ever come across in the past, and the luxury to look at only the things that make me happy and pass over the troubles of the past if I feel like it.

    1. I have to say I agree too! Definitely fun to think about other time periods and would be fun to go back for a mini week long vacation but I would definitely want to end up back in 2017. And for those exact reasons you mentioned! Love it.

  22. It would be a total waste if I buy something expensive and only wear it for a few times.
So,after reading your article. I finally made my decision with a long chiffon dress

  23. Haha such a funny story 🙂 Love this dress ! If you want hop around time, you can just try to read OUTLANDER, not the TV show (very don’t like it) but the books. They are the best !

  24. My favorite time period is definitely the late 1800s! Victorian Era all the way! Have fun wherever you’re off too! 💕

  25. Amber, if you like 50’s fashion you NEED to watch “call the midwife”… it’s a British period drama set in 50’s London and aside from being an AMAZING story, it’s got such great costumes, I think it would totally inspire you!

    Also, love these pics❤️😊

  26. So dang dreamy! The scenery with your gorgeous self and that dress is just beautiful!

I definitely love the 40s. I would kill to go to a big band affair and get all glammed up.

  27. Your dress is so sweet! You look absolutely adorable in it!
My favorite time period is by far the 40’s!!

  28. Love it! That dress is so fun! I’m more of a ’40s girl myself! Although, my grandparents have all these black and white photos from them in the 50s and they’re *so* cool to look at! My grandfather is also a big car guy and has an original purple and white 1956 crown vic!

    xo, Sofia

  29. You are Beautiful!!!! I love the way you did your makeup for this shoot! What has been your favorite go-to foundation these days?

  30. Love this! You are so funny 🙂 Love this dress on you and I think being barefoot made it even better, those restaurants should seriously re-consider! Have a great day! xo Holly

  31. Such a cute look and so funny about always forgetting your shoes! I once had to wear my boyfriend’s huge shoes into the grocery store because I forgot mine. We were cracking up because I looked and felt like a clown. My favorite time period is probably the late 60s/early 70s I love the mod and hippie fashion inspiration.

  32. You are seriously SO beautiful!!! These photos look like your in a magical garden, haha!

    1. I love hearing that!!! That’s the kind of look I was going for 🙂 And thank you!! You are too kind!
