These photos are from when David and I escaped to the big island for a couple nights!!! It was so fun πŸ™‚ you know you’re having a good time when people ask if you are on your honeymoon. We stayed at the Four Seasons Hualalai and it was one of the nicest resorts we have ever stayed at. The grounds were incredible and it was so amazing we didn’t want to leave the resort. Which is saying something because we are usually adventure people who like to go see as much as possible. We had a scuba dive and a zip line planned as well as exploring black sand beaches but canceled all of it and decided to just relax at the resort. Even the gym was amazing and was giving me major inspo for when we have an indoor/outdoor gym one day. (I have always dreamed of having one at home! So convenient)

We chatted, took a nap on the beach, went on romantic walks, ate yummy food, went snorkeling in their pond (has over 4,000 tropical fish! soo pretty!), and chilled in the hot tub. Also our room had a steam room!!! So fun. I love steam rooms especially because my skin feels amazing after.

One thing I was thinking about yesterday is how crazy it is that one conversation can make such an impact in your life. I was thinking how happy I am with where we are in life in general and the journey we have been on so far and was thinking about all of the big steps along the way. For example when we randomly took a walk in Southern California in December when I was pregnant with Atticus and that walk led to sitting down to have a snack and having a conversation about one day starting a hair extension company. It was the first time we had the idea and I think now that we have our business up and running, how important that conversation was. Or when we were in Italy and conversation led to, “lets have a baby!” or when we sat on the couch one night and ended up at “lets move to New York City!” Looking back I am so happy we had all of these conversations. Thinking about all of this was kind of just a reminder of why we need to have more meaningful conversationΒ and just talk because you never know where a conversation could lead you. Even if it is pointless conversation because that often turns into something meaningful.

David and I probably “talk” more than most couples only because we are together all day every day since we co work and co parent together. And since we really love what we do we often talk about work. Or the kids. Which I love to talk about – they are my favorite subjects to talk about. But while we were in Kona we decided to not talk about work or the kids and it was pretty fun (okay we did catch ourselves watching videos of the kids at night ha). We talked about really random things like “if you could make a documentary about anything what would it be and why?” His was about interviewing all of the people in New York City that keep the city running. Like the people who empty the trash every day, taxi drivers, subway workers, etc. We always talked about this when we lived there. How the city couldn’t function without them. Mine was internet trolls. I am truly fascinated by who are these people? Where are they from? What is the common denominator between all of these people and their need to be negative? Because sometimes I don’t think they believe they are being negative. I don’t know, it just really fascinates me and leaves me curious. But yeah it was fun to have alone time with my hubs and feel like we are dating again. As much as it makes me sad to leave the kids overnight, it is needed every now and again.

Anyways, another random rant for you! Have a good Tuesday!!!!

  1. Hi Amber,

I love reading your blog (that seems to be the consensus around here!) and have been an avid reader for the past 2 years. I admire how down-to-earth you are, and how relatable your feelings are.

I am now 25, married, and just found out today that I am pregnant with my first child. Reading your stories and experiences makes me hopeful; it opens my eyes to see that people can grab life by the horns and still make it a beautiful one – balanced with marriage, children, fun new experiences, and following dreams all rolled into one. Reading your blog has made me more confident to raise a family of my own πŸ™‚

Keep up all that you do, just know that your posts touch and inspire many lives. Much love from the midwest! – Jennifer

  2. I love following along with you and your sweet little family!!! And talk about relationship goals!!! I would love for you to do a post on some of your favorite spots in Hawaii as a local!! I will be spending a month there this coming winter and would love to hear some highlights of your beautiful state, and I’m sure other readers would as well. πŸ™‚

  3. Hey Amber,

I am really fascinated of you and David and your relationship! It’s so amazing that you fit together so perfectly and talk about so many things, even if you work and live site by site every day. I really want to find someone like that one day πŸ™‚
Your trip sounds so amazing! I want to go to Hawaii so bad, after seeing all your pictures and reading you posts! Would be my dream to live there for some month and really exploring all the islands and getting in touch with the locals πŸ™‚ Hawaii is a magical place!

    Love from Germany
    Xx Paulie <3

  4. This sounds amazing! It’s always so good to go away together as a couple. I think it’s actually one of the most important parts: scheduling a little time away from everything and enjoying each others company!

    xo, Sofia

  5. You seem like such a kind, genuine, and sweet person who is just beautiful on the inside and outside. We probably couldn’t be more different (I’m a physician living in Kansas City), but your blog is truly a bright spot in the week. I love seeing your adorable minis and hearing your positive ponderings on life. Thank you for sharing!

  6. Your literally pure magic! Thanks for sharing! I always feel a little more inspired to do life better and love just a little more than I was before after reading your posts like this! XO Love from Nashville

  7. So glad that you and David could just sit and have real conversation πŸ™‚ That must be why your marriage is going so strong! Love the photos, especially the one of you holding bananas!

  8. Amber!!! What is your nail polish color? I loveee the color you have been rocking lately ! Please share <3

  9. Good for you guys for taking time for yourselves and your relationship! Such a key part of any healthy family! Love the pictures.

  10. I freaking LOVE your random rants girl!!! Loved reading this so much. Hubby and I left our 7 month twins for dinner the other night and we asked each other a list of 22 random questions I found online and it lead to the most wonderful, interesting conversations. After being together 5 years it’s so fun to keep exploring his mind. So glad you guys were able to have such a wonderful time away together!

  11. I can’t believe your bangs have grown out already! Do you take any hair vitamins. I have such trouble growing mine out. Love your bathing suit by the way! xoxo

  12. Wow you guys are such a cool couple! You guys really are a great team! That’s awesome that you can just hangout and have normal conversations. I feel like we just don’t do that enough with people we care about. Thanks for sharing!

  13. Cute suit! Adore the ruffled back!!! Conversations are so important!!! Especially ones that are meaningful. Love hearing about those ones and to see the connections come to fruition on the blog. =)

  14. I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing about your journey on starting your hair extension line?

  15. This is so sweet that you guys got a nice little weekend away. I love your point about having more oconversations. I think we all often just talk in passing while watching a movie or sitting in bed on our phones instead of turning the TV off and just asking each other real life questions to learn more about the other. My husband and I have been trying to be more intentional with this too! 😘

  16. Aw, I LOVE that you guys are so ‘together’ that you’re still in the honeymoon phase! Glad you two got a break, and I’m sure Chauncey and the kiddos had a whale of a time with the sitter too!

  17. I love this! And I think about these things all the time! It’s also so important to have that one person who supports all of our crazy ideas πŸ™‚ My fiance is definitely that person for me, always being like “Yes! Let’s do it!!” πŸ™‚

  18. Ah this is so so true and makes me so happy — I lovvveee how cute you and David are! It’s so important to keep it all fun and exciting πŸ™‚ great great post. PS your fam is seriously goals

  19. Hey! With so much moving and everything, how do you find a sitter that you trust whenever you have alone time?

  20. Great post! It’s so funny because I love following your blog and instagram! My sister and have been out hiking all day on the big island today in volcanoes national park, and when we came back to relax your post was about the big island traveling! In fact, the whole hole my sister and I played the same game with each other! It was a small world for me since I love your blog! Cheers!

  21. Don’t listen to the trolls! They are just jealous of your success. You have earned it, girl! I teach high schoolers, and I feel like there are “mean girls” in the real world just like in HS… if that makes sense! haha! You have so many fans; I hope you can avoid those mean people! My mom always said, “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all!”

  22. such cute pictures and talking and having those conversations is so important! i liked this post πŸ™‚

  23. Lovely escape you two took. Love the photos, and how funny you took a photo of David napping. Love your rants. They are genuinely good and gives me something to think about. So true that truly talking to your partner can be difficult between work and kids.

  24. I loved these photos and I love all of your “random rants”!! They are always so geunine and make me think!! πŸ™‚ xoxo

  25. I know that hotel πŸ˜‰ I think Im missing the four seasons hualalai too much lately hahaha maybe another trip to Hawaii is needed!! The snorkeling pond (kings pond) is SO FUN!! and we had a room with a few of kings pond too!! and of course ULU is DELISH

  26. Awww I love that! It’s so much fun to still feel like a newlywed <3 My hubby and I talk A LOT too. We dated long distance for 3 years before I moved to Croatia to be with him so for a while, all we could do was talk. Now, we work for the same company and even though we're usually in different buildings, we IM, text, snapchat, and call each other a million times a day and then hang out with each other when he gets home. It's the best! Glad you guys had a chance to get away for a night. (P.S.) I LOVE steam rooms too!)

  27. I think negative people online are in pain. Some people have a lot of pain and don’t know what to do with it and can try and make people feel bad from the safety of their own homes to make them feel a little bit better. They probably feel like they have no control in their own lives and it makes them feel like they have a little bit of power.

  28. Wow, so true. Little conversations can cause life to take such a turn. It’s awesome! I love this blog so much and you’re so inspiring. Also love your retro glasses!!!

    xx, Hannah

  29. Love this post and how genuine you are! You truly have such a beautiful life and your kids will be so happy to be able to come back and read these one day. Thank you for always sharing with us! ❀️

  30. i loved your rant!! My husband and I are super close too, but sometimes we just get caught up in the craziness of life and forget to have those important conversations. Thanks for the reminder!!! 😘

  31. So great that you guys are able to do that regularly! We just had a few days alone in Vail in February for the first time since kids number 2 and 3 came along! Before that it had been 6 years since we had had even one night alone together! SO needed! Its amazing how much FUN you can have together when you aren’t on working parent duty 24/7!

  32. I just want to say how much I appreciate the way you carry yourself through your blog and instragram. I’m always curious about internet trolls too, and the reason behind those hateful messages. But I think is more important the way you carry yourself when the situation comes your way. I used to follow this girl on IG, beautiful lady, beautiful home, kids etc but for some reason, people would really say mean things about her, but then she would really sit there and reply and post things about people coping her etc. And I think we are all humans we have our moments when we just want to say you know f* you, you don’t know me. But when you just ignore them, when you don’t give them that reaction that I believe they look for when they say those things is always the best way to go about it I think the reaction kind of feeds their negative souls, and is always better to rise about he negative and focus more on the positives. I love that you keep this space always positive. Wow this comment is long lol anyways. Love your blog. Hope you guys are having a wonderful Tuesday πŸ™‚

  33. Love, love, love this post and the personal meaning behind it. Love your blog and coming to it day in and day out to get to know you and your family better and to draw inspiration. XOXO

  34. Your relationship honestly gives me such hope!! I’m sort of on the border of wanting to get married and wanting to stay as far away from that little piece of paper as possible, and I have a great argument for both!!, but the way you guys interact with each other and make time for one another really adds a huge weight to the want to be married side!

  35. Good conversations are SOOO important. I’m one of those people who tends to just think about things over and over but never actually talk about them. So lately I’ve been trying to make an effort to talk over these things in my head with my husband way more often. This post was a good reminder of how important it is! And you never know, pointless conversations could always end up leading somewhere! You and David are very inspiring and I appreciate these little nuggets of wisdom you give here on your blog πŸ™‚

I’m also going to request a blog post on how you edit your blog/Instagram pics. Specifically your favorite filters/presets….and David should definitely do a photography post! What settings he loves to use, tips he has for new photographers, or tips he has for VERY new photographers (I.e. My husband taking photos of me for my blog πŸ™ˆ). Trying to teach him composition is an uphill battle! So maybe tips from a man for a man would be helpful!

    Wonderful post as always! Xx

  36. I have been to this resort before and I absolutely love it!! It is so amazing and beautiful. It’s true, you don’t feel like leaving the property at all while you are there πŸ™‚ . I am so happy that you guys got to go away for a bit and just have some time alone!! These photos are beautiful!

  37. you should make those documentaries happen – both would be so interesting to watch!

  38. Awesome post Amber! My man and I are the same way – we’re always hanging out together and never stop talking!! Your post totally made me think back to all those seemingly small conversations between my hubby and I that led to such big life changes – and all those others silly weird talks we’re so fond of lol!!! I know how strange this sounds but sometimes I swear read your blog and think, “geeze we have like the same awesome relationship, I bet we’d all get along so well,” hahaha!!! Thank you for another wonderful post hun! I hope you have a fabulous day!!! πŸ™‚

  39. I love that floral one piece and that red top! So pretty on you, will be checking them out. I hope to go on a trip sans kids sometime soon! Looks dreamy.

I have to say this about internet trolls. I really think these are unhappy people who have jealousy. Maybe they don’t realize they have the same potential to go out and accomplish goals! And still not a good reason enough to be mean to anyone!

  40. LOVED this, love that you promote communication and seeking other topics that push your mind to go beyond the everyday routine …..Beautiful photos. xoxo

  41. Love this. You guys are great. I have your hair extensions and I get to wear them this weekend at my wedding. I feel like you guys belong in Hawaii, not Arizona. You have never seemed happier. This post speaks very loudly. You guys are are an inspiration.

  42. I don’t know if EVERY single time of the day I could be with my hubby and I love him to pieces don’t get me wrong lol. I just need a bit of space sometimes but glad to see you guys work well together. My hubby and I make a great team as far as raising our teens etc but when it comes to business ideas etc we are on two different pages because im very girly and he is so masculine. I don’t think we could do a hair biz together honestly he wouldn’t know what he was doing lol but I would love to do a capsule collection, fashion is my passion.

  43. Loved this post! I agree, it’s important to keep conversation open and free flowing with your partner. There are so many things to learn about one another, and isn’t it interesting to still be learning things after so much time together?? You guys are so inspiring!

Also, I think it’s a great idea to do a documentary about internet trolls and what goes through their minds! Their behavior baffles me as well!

  44. These are beautiful photos! I think it is wonderful that your relationship has so many levels of depth beyond your marriage: you discuss work, children, and aspirations often! I dream that my husband and I will be able to work together one day. Children are still a little ways out but I cannot wait to parent with him either!

  45. This is such a great post and I appreciate you being so honest. Glad y’all had a break from the regular routine with the kids and were able to reconnect like that!

Cathy, your Poor Little It Girl

  46. Love this post! I can also point to these kinds of questions for big changes in our family’s life. My husband and I completely changed careers close to our 50’s after a “what if” conversation. Time alone together is so important and I love that you both had such interesting topics to discuss. Love your family and blog. Thanks for sharing!

  47. Love this post! Hoping one day I can find my own successes (and love!) as you have <3

  48. Love this post and the documentary question is such a good conversation starter. There actually is a short documentary on internet trolls called The Internet Warriors. I can’t bring myself to watch it just yet though because I don’t want to get mad! Haha. Glad you guys had a fun trip together πŸ™‚

    Briana |

  49. LOL Internet trolls are just middle school bullies. They’re the same kids who are insanely insecure, so they think making fun of someone else somehow makes them “better” or have more power, haha.

  50. Yes so true about all these amazing things you’ve done have starterd from a simple conversation with your husband! Sometimes we have dreams but we stop ourselves before we begin because we’re too afraid to say them out loud. The first step is speaking it. And it’s so simple. πŸ™‚ This post is inspiring! Thanks Amber.

  51. Oh yes, working together can be a two sided sword, it can be a lot of fun and so inspiring but it also can drain you and put you in a “bad place” with your partner. Talking about work and kids is very important because relationships succeed only if there is a good quality communication but it is also true that sometimes you should just concentrate on each other and forget about work and kids for a short time. πŸ™‚

    Beautiful photos as always!
