LASHES: Borboleta Beauty // TOP: Topshop // LEGGINGSShopbop // LIPSTICK: MAC ‘Fanfare’

I think everyone has their “before the baby to do list” but I also have a ME to do list before the baby comes! And a revised one after having Atticus and realizing things I should have done beforehand. I think after you have your baby you are obviously on cloud nine but at the same time I didn’t feel super amazing about myself (hi granny panties, pads the size of mount everest, still looking 5 months pregnant, flabby everything, engorged boobs, tired eyes .. I could go on) so I think it’s important to do little things that can help us feel better about ourselves afterwards. And yes, a lot of these things many women may not care about (maybe I am realizing while writing this that maybe I am high maintenance? I don’t know.) but you can take what you want from it 🙂

1. LASHES!! I meant to get lash extensions before I had Atticus last year but I got busy (lazy) and ended up not doing it. I am blonde and have all blonde features…. meaning all my features disappear without makeup haha! As soon as I wash my face it’s bye bye lashes and eyebrows and for me doing my mascara is the longest process of my make up routine so not only are lash extensions a huge time saver but I feel so much better when I have them! It is so nice feeling like you don’t have to put any make up on and you can still have lashes that make you feel pretty. I had a hard time finding someone I liked in NYC so I used the Borboleta Directory to find a Borboleta certified stylist who happened to be here over fashion week! Borbeleta is great because they actually make my lashes look full enough where I dont feel the need to add mascara once I have put on my eyeliner. I always like them full enough where I can wear zero make up and look natural but once I have the make up on, they are still noticeable. They are also the softest lashes so I never even notice they are there.

2. WAX!! Seriously I hate shaving more than anything in life. Before this baby comes I am waxing everything. I should have done laser hair removal while I had the chance pre babies but I have been pregnant and/or breastfeeding for a lonnng time now so I missed that window.

3. HAIR APPT!! I scheduled mine terribly last time, it was way too early so by the time I had my baby I was already starting to get regrowth. I didn’t want to leave Atticus for three hours to get it done so I had pretty bad roots for a while until I was ready to leave him. So this time I scheduled one as close to my due date as possible and one before my “possible” induction date just in case.

4. WAIST TRAINER!! Last pregnancy I had gotten a belly band for afterwards and I had ordered a size small thinking that would fit. IT DIDN’T EVEN COME CLOSE! I meant to re order it in a size large but got lazy and never did. This time I definitely want to have a good waist trainer to hold everything together and form it all back to its previous state. I have been looking into different ones and will let you know which one I end up getting. Right now I’m thinking this one.

5. PLETHORA OF NURSING BRAS!! I had two nursing bras last time and I thought that would be enough. Oh no. When breastfeeding even with the pads inside I still would get milk on them and sometimes would wake up to a soaking wet bra and soaked through pads. I of course don’t want to do laundry every single day so this time I got WAY more so I have clean ones on hand. (this is my favorite bra I have 3 in the tan, 2 blush pink, and 2 black) And yes I know that is so many bras but when you have milk coming out like a pitcher, they are much needed.

6. TANNING!! I feel 900000 times better when I am tan. And 90000 times skinnier. I just am a big believer in sunless tanning I wish I had threw some on before I had Atticus and with these it is sooo easy! It’s hard to find time to do it after the baby comes and especially once you start breastfeeding. I was always scared it would transfer on to the baby when we were snuggling haha so definitely needs to happen before.

Anyways, that is all. Like I said I know this is all trivial stuff when it comes to having a baby! Its all about the baby but at the same time I think us mamas need to feel good too. I never did understand why people take such issue with women who wear make up when they give birth – I mean this is such a special day and one you will remember forever and ever, so I dont know about you but I definitely wanna look good on a day I am gonna be looking back on for the rest of my life haha. So these are just a few things I wish I had done last time and am definitely doing this time around 🙂

  1. what camara do you use for the everyday i will love to buy one to get cool pics and also not that expensive which camera do david and you recommend?

  2. So true about finding time to do you before your second baby doing my to do list now 3 weeks to go!

  3. I’m not currently pregnant or TTC but I love this list & definitely saved it to my “future baby XXXXX” board on pinterest for future reference when the time comes!

  4. Hey Amber, can you let me know which waist trainer you ended up getting and did it work? Thanks, I am in the market and just wanted to check in with you in case you had a good option. Thanks again, Maria

  5. Hi Amber,
I love reading your blog and was in the same boat with the waist trainer! With another baby on the way I was curious about which one you ended up using post Rosie.

    1. Hi love!! I ended up getting the one that I linked above from Amazon 🙂 It works great! The hard part is ordering the right size haha

      1. Nvm, I just saw that you got the one you posted about. Sorry, didn’t think your answer would be so easy to find. Thanks again for the info! -Maria

        1. Oh no problem!! I am glad you liked the post. Thanks for reading!! xo

  6. Hey Amber!
I love following along with yours and your family’s life! We are expecting our second baby any day now and they will be about the same age difference as Atticus and Rosie and I love seeing how you do life with two babies!
I am looking into different waist trainers and wondered if you ended up finding one you liked? I used the BFF Belly Bandit with my first and was happy with the results but it is a little bulky and hard to wear under clothes so I would love to hear your thoughts on yours if you ended up getting one!

    Thanks so much! |

    1. Hi Morgan!! Thanks so much for the comment 🙂 You will see on my “Me List” post that I linked to a waist trainer I use and love!! I hope that helps!! And congrats to you!! So exciting! xo

  7. Hi Amber! I love your blog and of course your lashes, I am scheduling an appointment with a Borboleta lash consultant and I am wondering whether you have the Classic or Volume lash extensions?

    1. Hi Amanda!! Thank you so much!! I am so glad you are following along 🙂 And yay! You will love your new lashes!! I went with the volume lashes!! xo

  8. Hey Amber, thanks for sharing your waist trainer suggestion. I have never really thought about using one but I am on my third (twins prior) and am now wishing I knew about this fantastic thing back then. Gonna get one for sure this time around.

I do have a question. I recently got eyelash extensions and loved them besides the fact that I needed to get use to not rubbing my eyes anyways, my question is, do you know if there is a clear glue they can attach them with? I have black lashes and my lady used black glue but I should have asked her prior. Thanks for your answer in advance! ????

    1. Hi Maria!! I am so glad you liked the post 🙂 Definitely try out the waist trainer! I have loved it!! And as far as the lash glue, there is clear glue as well, so maybe just check with your lash lady and see if she offers both!! xo

  9. I love this post! I think it is SO important for women to remember to pamper themselves. I think mommas can be the best when they feel their best. I have also been considering getting lash extensions, so this post might have pulled me in that direction for sure! xx ||

    1. Thanks so much for reading this!! I am so glad you liked it 🙂 And I agree completely!! Moms deserve to feel amazing 🙂 Thanks again!! xo

  10. Hi, Amber ! I love the pictures!!! Could you, please, make a tutorial on this hairstyle? I totally love it!!!

  11. Love posts like this! I just found out I am pregnant, and wondered if you had a post that had must have pregnancy items on it, or a must have baby registry list. Also wondering if there were certain bras you recommended while pregnant and others after baby is born. Seriously clueless here so would love an in depth post everything pregnancy! Even skincare while pregnant, like stretch mark prevention.

    1. Thank you so much!! I am so glad you enjoyed it 🙂 And I haven’t done any pregnancy must-haves but I do link my favorite products (diapers, strollers, swaddle blankets. etc). along the way! xo

  12. omg!! You’re a beauty as always!!!! Can’t wait to ‘meet’ your little girl!!

    1. Aww thank you so much!! I am so glad you agree!! Thanks for the sweet comment!! 🙂

  13. Pleaseeee do a makeup/application post!!! you’re makeup always looks flawless end effortless!

  14. I have to try that self tanner. I am so pale but I have never tried sunless tanning because Im afraid of it looking unnatural so I am so happy to have a great recommendation!

    1. Yeah!! Definitely give a try, it is so easy to use!! Let me know what you think if you do 🙂 xo

  15. I have been looking for a nice and comfortable waist trainer, then I saw this Colrovie recommendation from you and….looove it! It really is very comfy and PRETTY!! I think it is so pretty!

I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog! A beautiful family 🙂 Go girl! Continue to cherish each and every piece

    1. I am so glad!! Yay!! I love how pretty it is too! Thanks for reading Lace!! xo

  16. Yes! I love reading tips like this 🙂 I also don’t know why people have such a problem with girls wearing makeup all the time. If it makes you feel good about yourself, do it, I say!

  17. I think these are all great ideas! I believe that everyone should always feel there best. So doing little things like getting your hair done is totally important!

    1. Thanks so much Mariah!! I am so glad you like the ideas 🙂 Thanks for reading!! xo

  18. I recently subscribed to your blog and I absolutely love it! you are adorable and I cannot wait to read more!!

  19. These photos are amazing. And I liked getting to read your ME list, thanks for sharing!

  20. What is a good lip liner for a light pink/ natural lipstick… and what would be a good one for a berry lipstick?

  21. Hi Amber! Sometimes you tell people to send you mail for their questions, i want to send a mail too but i couldn’t find your mail address here :/ And I really like when you post things like this besides fashion and travel, I do your working out video when i’m in that mood and the beauty makeup favorites video you did was sooooo helpful, please make them more 🙂

  22. Amber I’m so obsessed with your Instagram and blog!!! Please make my dreams come true to follow me on Instagram!!! I have a 13 mo old boy and love looking at pictures of Atticus and your cute family!!! My Instagram is beckabk!! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Becka!! I am so glad you follow along 🙂 You are so sweet! I will totally check out your Instagram!! xoxo

  23. Hey Amber! I am in need of a good hair stylist in NYC! Dont want to go to someone who doesnt do blonde well. My hair color is very similar to yours. Who do you go to for cut and color??

  24. Hey Amber! loved this post! great for women like me who have not had a baby and don’t know what to expect. I am all for pampering and feeling better about yourself wen you did a lot of hard work making a baby over the past 9 months & labor! 🙂 Thanks so much fort his awesome post!

I was going to ask you, have you ever done false eyelashes instead of extensions? If so what brand would you suggest? I have never worn false eye lashes or done extensions but want to try them before spending $300 on extensions. Thanks for the advice!

    🙂 Alexandra

  25. I Love following you and your cute familiy! i just started blogging but already mentioned you as one of my favorites 🙂 Eileen

    1. Aww thank you Eileen!! That is so nice of you!! And yay!! Keep up the blogging! xo

  26. OMG… your last paragraph made me laugh so much… My baby boy is 3yo and I remember in the morning my water broke but before going to the hospital I had to put some eyeliner before… Love ur blog, love ur style 😉

  27. Love your pics! I was wondering what kind of camera do you guys have and if you use vsco to edit your pics? Thanks so much!!

    1. Thank you babe!! And we use a canon 5d mark iii and I use a program called Lightroom for camera pictures, and VSCO for iphone pics 🙂 xo

  28. my son is about 4 months younger than yours (our boys actually look a lot alike- I always shows your pics to my hubby bc our boys literally could be brothers! it’s pretty fun to see) and I agree a waist trainer was a life saver for me. I ended up buying this one:

it is a little bit pricey but it made my tummy slim down SO FAST and I had to have a c-section so it kept me supported at all times. I kept it on 24/7 and that made the difference. Its also machine washable, a big plus 🙂 I got a small & I think I’m bigger than you, but maybe try 2 sizes and return what doesn’t fit after baby comes.

also, don’t forget to get a mani/pedi 😉 good luck to you!

  29. I’m not a mum, but I agree thats it’s important to have a ‘me time’ (even when you’re not pregnant). Also these pictures look like it was great fun to take. I’m glad your happy 😀

    1. Thanks so much for reading anyway!! I appreciate it 🙂 You can save this for a future read too!! xo

  30. Hi Amber! I love your blog and have been reading for several years. I can tell you’re a wonderful mother! I’m coming to NYC for our first trip with our 5 month old and was just wondering if you would be willing to share your pediatricians name with us for a just in case deal? We come often and would like someone recommended that we could trust in the case our little one needed to see a doctor. You can email me privately if your willing to share! Thanks!!

    1. Hi Abby!! Thanks so much for following along!! That makes me so happy 🙂 And how fun!! You will have a blast!! And I totally understand!! If you can email me, I will get back to you!! xo

  31. Such good points! I was going back and forth on one last hair appointment and the waist shaper, but I think you’ve just sold me on both. I’m due Nov 29th and I know I’ll probably end up hibernating in sweats because I will have terrible roots and won’t feel that great about myself.

    1. Thanks so much babe!! I am so glad you loved them 🙂 And yay!! So close to me!! And YES! Treat yourself to both 😉 You deserve it!! xo

  32. I’m not a mom but I love this to-do list . I love your blog and I read every post.

  33. What are your thoughts on tinting your eyelashes? I would assume it doesn’t make as much of a difference as the lashes, but I think I remember you mentioning you tinted your lashes for your wedding. I like the idea of tinting them because I don’t want to wreck my natural lashes & wonder if the lash extensions will bother me since you can’t really rub your eyes with them on.

    1. I have done it before and loved it!! I think it is a great option 🙂 I just love the length I get from lash extensions which is why I do this. But if you have long eyelashes and just want them to stand out more, tinting is great!! I hope that helps?! xo

  34. I feel that by the time I have a baby I will be so well educated because of you haha Great tips!
I also wanted to ask if you could do a berry lip make up tutorial? I really love the berry lipstick you used in your fall outfits post/video. I am terrible with make up and I have no idea how to pair colors together!

    1. Haha totally!! You can save this for a future read 😉 Thanks so much for reading anyway!! And that’s a great suggestion!! Thanks so much Jany!! xo

  35. What kind of products are you using for your bellu to avoid stretch marks ?

  36. What kind of products are you using for your belly to avoid stretch marks?

  37. I doubt I am going to be a mom any time soon, but this was so helpful! I wouldn’t have even thought of some of these things! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Rae!! I am so happy you liked it 🙂 You can save it for a future read!! xo

  38. well you always look gorgeous! I am a natural blonde, well I need hilites, but look like no eyelashes or eyebrows without makeup also. What do you use on eyebrows, or do you have them dyed? Need to do something with mine, not sure what though. xx

  39. Hey Amber, love this post! I broke my foot recently and I have been so LAZY, so this definitely made me realize I need to put more time back into myself.
Me and my boyfriend are trying to plan a trip to New York and I would love to know your opinion on the restaurants and what touristy things are the most fun. (Maybe a blog post if you run out of ideas one day? 🙂 )

    1. Hi Megan!! Ah darn! I am so sorry about your foot 🙁 I hope it gets better soon!! And how fun! I often refer to food places in my blog posts but I don’t have a specific tourist page. That is a great suggestion though!! Thanks so much!! xoxo

  40. Okay I love this. My first is due in March and I will definitely be doing some of these. I think it’s important for us so that we don’t feel like we lose ourselves in the process of being a mom….which makes us BETTER moms in the end!

  41. Irene, if you watch her Vlogs you will see her and her family on their way to church in a few of them. Not that it’s anyone else’s business to judge, she’s not preaching the church to anyone. She is just opening up her life to her followers, if you don’t like what you see, don’t come back- especially just to troll the comments section! “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; …….. Seems to me you checked your religion at the door when you left that nasty comment. And I’m not “practicing”, BTW.

Amber if you read this, I love your blog, please don’t edit yourself based on negative internet dwellers like Irene!

  42. Lovely pictures and you look great! I think women are all the same, even when I go to the grocery store I need to wear my favorite lipstick haha. For me it’s important to look and feel great as well. Happy weekend! 🙂

  43. Hi Amber !
First comment on your blog that I’ve followed for 6 months. I’m not a mum but I love this to-do list and YES of course it’s important to take care of yourself when having a baby. And if it comes with lashes, all right go for it !
Sorry for my english, I’m french and it’s not always easy for me ;).

  44. Oh girl. I wore a FULL face of makeup when I had my daughter. At least a handful of nurses commented that they were so amazed that I looked so good after giving birth. Being “high maintenance ” is worth those compliments right after having a baby! Haha! No shame!

  45. I seriously love this post! I think some bloggers are afraid to post things like this for fear of coming across vain, but I think it’s so important for you to feel your best for the sake of your own happiness and well being, which will lead to a happier baby and family! I love all of your suggestions!!

    1. Thanks so much Alyssa!! I love the feedback so much!! Thank you for reading!! xo

  46. suuuuch a good list!! i am three months into having my second baby and it is sooo wonderful, but definitely get your list accomplished beforehand!! and for sure you learn on that first baby what you’re gonna be able to do! i remember looking at my eyebrows and being like hoooly cow what happened to me?!! hehe. xoxoxo!!

  47. First of all, lovely pictures. You two are the cutest together. Second, I totally agree with you, that even though is all about baby, there should be a “me” list when pregnant and not pregnant. Thank you for sharing these good ideas, I will definitely use them before baby comes this february. PLEASE!! let me know your thought on the waist trainer. I keep looking for a good one, but never know which one will actually work.
Thanks for sharing this!!! Happy weekend!

  48. I don’t think that’s high maintenance at all! I am not even pregnant, but I have thought about how these things will be on my to-do list too. I’m also the same as you with lashes and eyebrows, so my lash extensions have become completely necessary. If only finding a good extensionist was easy!

Props to you for taking care of yourself before baby!

  49. I’ve never been pregnant (yet!) but I know I will be absolutely clueless when it comes to this kind of prep! Obviously i will be back stalking your blog looking for this post when that time comes haha 🙂 So excited for baby #2 to come! I wonder who she will look more like, you or David or a good mix?! The pictures with shadows on your face are so gorgeous by the way!
xo, Candace | Lovely Little Rants

  50. Super cute baby bump! You’re beautiful, and I love your blog. I look forward to your new posts all the time.

  51. While I don’t have kids, I think it’s great that you take time for yourself. You have to be happy to be a great mom and if pampering yourself makes you happy then do that. And you look amazing after having Atticus and during your pregnancies!
    xo Adri

    1. Thanks so much!! I appreciate you reading it anyway!! You’re so sweet!! xoxo

  52. Love this post!! I am 11 weeks in to my first pregnancy and will take all the advice you have to give!;)

    1. Thanks so much!! And congrats to you!! Definitely keep this list in mind for later 😉 xo

  53. Amber, I don’t think I have ever seen you look more stunning than you do in that first pic. I really like this list- it really does make you feel a million times better to do some of those little things. I hear you on the leaking problem! I use washable pads and sleep with three in each side at the beginning. Do you have any nursing camis? I love the extra long ones from Glamourmom- so nice to have a break from the nursing bras occasionally, especially for sleep. Oh, and I know what you mean about not being able to do certain things when you’re pregnant/nursing- I have been doing one or the other (or both) every single day of the last 5 1/2 years! Totally worth it though 🙂 you’re gorgeous- thanks for sharing 🙂

  54. I die at how gorgeous you are. I am so nervous to get eyelash extensions because my friend had a really bad experience, even at a nice salon. But, maybe I will just cave.

    You are so beautiful.

    1. Wow thank you so much!! That is so sweet of you!! And oh no really?! I think there’s always the worst case scenario stories about everything.. I would give it a try though!! xo

  55. I was wondering the same thing…not even trying to be judgy or anything like that (you do you), but I am genuinely curious what your beliefs are 🙂

  56. nice post. I am enjoying your blog and YouTube chanel so much! Xxx your dutch fan 🙂

  57. Love this post!! I don’t think your high maintenance at all! Or maybe I am just as high maintenance haha 🙂 Great tips. I think if you are a happy mom that will make you a better mom and if looking and feeling good do the trick then awesome!

    1. Thanks girl!! I am so glad to hear that haha 😉 And I totally agree with that too!! Thank you love!

  58. I used the Belly Bandit after both of my pregnancies (buy on Amazon or Can’t say enough good things about it…my hubs had to help me fasten it at first, but it works to help reign in post-pregnancy stomachs. And it felt better to me to have the extra support like a big hug, with all that loose skin that happens after birth.
Great tips! I did a lot of these too!

    1. Yay!! I am so glad you loved it!! They make a huge difference!! Thanks for reading Caitlin!! xo

  59. Great post! But how do you prevent stretch marks? I know all women get them as much or as worse and the next. But with a second baby have you done any preventative creams?

  60. I loved reading this post, especially because I am currently going through my first pregnancy! I feel quite yucky now and I am earlier in my pregnancy so I cannot imagine how I am going to feel once I have the little one. People talk about pregnancy like it’s this amazing experience but wow, I just feel bloated and sick, haha. I am sure it will come though 🙂 Keep the pregnancy tips coming because they are definitely being added to my list of to-dos, to-buys, etc.! It is great to hear about fellow pregnant women’s experiences and not sugar coat it. Love your blog and have been reading for a very long time. Good luck with everything in the next few weeks!

  61. I loved this list!!! After I had my son I also realized once he got to a few months old the things I needed, amazing how much you feel like a stranger in your own body.. Totally agree on the waxing and having your hair done!! Next baby I want to have our apartment cleaned before I get home (it’s really affordable here) and I want a stocked fridge of healthy food I like- being stuck at home with a new born and no way to get to the shops and the only food in the house is one egg leaves you scarred haha.

  62. I think lots of baths with candlelight are the best pre-baby. My daughter was induced early because I have a medical condition and the night before I was going into hospital I was so nervous. My husband didn’t say a thing, just went upstairs and ran me a bath, put candles and lanterns all around it, put a play list of my favourite music on and turned off the light then he told me to go up and relax. I was so touched by it! And while I was in the bath he did all the dishes and cleaned up downstairs and he even brought me up a cup of tea while I was in there. Serious points for him !! I didn’t do hardly any of these on your list except having my roots sorted but I wish I had. If we have another baby (probably won’t because of my condition but your blog does make me really want another!!) I will definitely get eyelash extensions and self tan. I felt awful after an 80 hour labor and didn’t put any makeup on at all or do my hair and as a result there are no photos of me with my newborn as I hated having my picture taken. Look after yourself and do whatever you need to to feel confident and it’ll help you recover so much quicker, I know I will if I’m ever pregnant again.
    Love your blog! Cara x

  63. I’m so glad that you have ‘me’ time too, I think it’s so important for a mothers wellbeing to have some time to feel like yourself and not just your motherly self. I was made to feel really bad by some people for trying to keep up my appearance when I was told I should have been concentrating on the baby. You look utterly beautiful xx

  64. I’m in love with this post! I’m due in 4 weeks and loved every one of these tips–thank you for sharing!

  65. you are without a doubt the most beautiful pregnant woman I’ve ever seen and probably that will ever exist. period.

  66. This is aaaaalll so true! ( especially the waxing guuuurrllll).. We NEED to feel good and that’s so important. A pretty robe and slippers, nails done, etc.. These moments are forever and you want to look back and not be horrified hahaha! When I had my daughter 16 months ago, I was in full labor for two days but they kept sending me home (not dialating).. When the moment finally came putting makeup and doing my hair was the last thing on my mind. I had not slept a wink and could care less. Well we had professional pics taken through our hospital and let me tell you I wish I had taken at least 10 min to do SOMETHING (anything) to myself. Next time I’ll have the glam squad on standby hahaha!

  67. I think it’s a great list and not too high maintenance! Definitely some things I wish I’d done before I had my baby 5 months ago. I too go my hair cut too early! haha

  68. I really appreciate this post and can relate 100%. It is the small things that matter and I did a few of these prior to having my daughter. It really helped me push through some of those baby blues and exhaustion from a new baby/trying to figure out breast feeding. (Which didn’t come naturally to me so I had to work at it. HARD.) My husband supported “the list” and me 100% and it’s nice to see that yours is the same. As for it being trivial or high maintenance, I think not and motherhood is a sisterhood so hopefully everyone is supportive of your post. Congratulations on your baby, I know you just can’t wait to meet her:).

  69. I think it is great that you make the ‘me’ list too! I’m sure a lot of people will comment that you’re ‘high maintenance’ or ‘it should be about baby’ etc but you obviously are a great mom and put baby first, so those people are just being curmudgeons, ha! I plan to do the wax and lash extensions when my time comes too! I have an awesome lash extension artist here in Ann Arbor (Alexis @ Lily Grace) that I plan to visit – she did my wedding lashes (link below) and I loved them! Looking great in the photos by the way, your bump is so cute! – Charlie, lemon butter love

  70. I don’t think that’s high maintenence at all, or else I just am too! I am not a mom yet, but I feel like I am just a better wife and friend when I feel good. When I haven’t showered and feel gross, I am just nasty and short with people, but once I feel good, I can give of myself so much better!

I am going to be saving this list for when my day comes!

    xo Mary-Katherine

  71. I had people saying to me after posting my daughter’s birthday pictures, “I can’t believe you put on makeup/ did your hair!”. 1.) It takes me five-10 minutes to do my makeup and makes me feel better for visitors, photos, etc. 2.) I washed and dried my hair the day before, so all I did was take a few minutes to run a straightener through it. I gave birth during the 5am hour, so when I wasn’t feeding/ snuggling her, I luckily had lots of other family wanting to hold her and got a few minutes to get ready. 🙂 Whatever makes each of us happy- let’s not judge.

  72. eek! this post is fantastic, Amber! I couldn’t agree more on feeling beautiful for such a memorable time. I had my baby girl this past july and used the Bellefit girdle / corset. they are a little pricey but so worth the extra money. I honestly can’t recommend them enough. I wore mine for 8 weeks and am smaller now in waist AND hips than I was pre-pregnancy. not to mention they suck you in and keep your core supported! I did have to get my hubs to help me zip it up the first couple times though while everything was still shrinking down. LOL lots of love to you and your sweet family! xo christine

    1. I got the Bellefit after my baby too. Unfortunately the doctor recommended I wait to wear it until my C-section incision healed (my guy was breech) and that took forever:/ I wore it once but by that point I didn’t think it was doing much. I would still totally recommend it though for those months right after. I looked at a bunch of different ones and it seemed to get the best reviews:)

  73. Hi Lacey,

I obviously am not Amber, but I have been following her blog for a while and she is a great person 🙂 She’s a wonderful example of a mother and wife and if you follow her for a bit you will see that too 🙂 It is hard to judge someone’s character and life and their beliefs from looking at two pictures. This is an uplifting and beautiful blog, but it is mainly about fashion and not religion at all really (just my observation as someone following for about a year now) 🙂

P.S. I am LDS and modesty is something that is really easy to see and judge but it is not even close as important (to me) as whether someone is loving and kind and treats others how Christ would treat them.

Once again, I am not Amber, but here is one answer to your question 🙂

  74. Amber-thank you for posting this! It’s so true more Mamas need to take of themselves. Especially, since there will be zero time with two little ones! I’d love for you to post about advice about being pregnant with another little one. Or maybe when baby girl comes; advice dealing with a newborn and a toddler! I love your blog so much so keep it coming! You look AMAZING as usual! Much love, Courtney

  75. I love this!! I agree so much on the wanting to look good. It is such a big day!! I unfortunately had just gotten ready for bed, washed my hair and everything and then laid down and my water broke, lol. I was not going to put makeup back on before going to the hospital or while in labor. It was a long night and I didn’t look amazing in pics but it was okay 🙂 I think next time I will get lash extensions and maybe even have my brows done and tinted 🙂 I know some ladies who are really good at it and it makes such a difference. I love your tan idea too 🙂

    Love your blog 🙂

  76. Hi Amber!
I think all your readers are excited for baby number 2, and I (we) totally get why you want to get all these things done! It makes you feel so much better at a time when all these emotions are going crazy.
I wanted to ask: do those waist trainers really work?? I’ve been having so flabby belly issues lately (gained a few pounds) and wondering if it will help me tone up a bit.

  77. I don’t think it’s high maintenance at all. I totally got my lashes done, waxed, facials everything before I had my baby. You have to feel good the days following delivery, it helps with self esteem and productivity 😉

  78. Oh Amber, i wish i’d read this post before i got my baby.. at that time i didn’t even think about getting a waist trainer and though i returned to my pre-pregnancy jeans three weeks postpartum, my waist is now (after 6 months) 5 cm bigger :-/
sorry for some girly whining 😉

    1. You can refer to this if you have another one 😉 I am glad you liked it, thanks Katia!!

  79. First of all, thank you for such a helpful post as I’m 15 weeks pregnant for the first time. Right after reading this post I made my own list and added more than half the things you’ve listed in yours. I also think it would be really nice if you could do a “what’s in my hospital bag,” like Kali mentioned earlier.
P.S.: Those lashes really do look natural. I couldn’t tell they were extensions until you mentioned it.

  80. Can I just say that I absolutely love your blog!! I am blessed with naturally long, curled lashes and I find it difficult to do eye makeup because it gets in the way, but I love them none the less. You should go for it.
Like many others I’m also anticipating a blog post with information on your photos and how you edit them. Please post one soon!!
    Much love xoxo

  81. I remember the pure bliss I felt having my newborn baby in my arms at home, but at the same time it was the most horrible I have ever felt in my entire life, physically speaking. Reading your post makes me realize how nice hair and lashes would have helped tremendously, even if it wouldn’t take away the pain from childbirth and breastfeeding. But it would have helped. To others, this might seem superficial and vain, but you seriously cannot understand until you go through it. I’m looking forward to being prepared to do the little things for myself with the next baby, knowing that there is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself and your baby at the same time.

  82. preach girl! a happy mom means a happy baby. isn’t that how that phrase goes??

  83. What a wonderful post! I just had a baby (almost) 3 months ago and have been going through most of your baby posts for advice and ideas- and I have to say all of these are great! We just traveled for the first time a week ago (to NYC actually) and I had your travel tips saved on my favorites and used it often!!!

  84. I think this is an awesome idea, Amber! I haven’t had a baby, but I still can appreciate this list for when the time comes 🙂 You really covered everything that would make a gal feel glamorous

  85. Thank you so much for creating this list! I am 15 weeks pregnant and have been searching high and low for the best nursing bra. I cannot wait to try this one. Thank you also for all the little me tips for prior to delivery as this is my first and I am utterly clueless. Love all your posts, they brighten my day :). Keep up the great work.

  86. I love this list!! Such good info! My baby is almost the same age as Baby A and in also pregnant again with our second baby!! I didn’t even think about the lash extensions.. That would be such a life saver for labor/hospital time! Wondering if you could do a “what’s in your hospital bag” this time around with the second babe! Love your blog!

    1. Completely agree about the “what’s in your hospital bag” request. I am 15 weeks and would love if you did this post and it would be so helpful. Thank you for the nursing bra tip, I will be heading out to get a few this weekend. 😉

  87. Amber, I just have to say that you have the most adorable little family and I just adore your style and positive energy! As a fellow NYC resident, I fully agree with the need to tan. After living here for a few years, I feel like I’ve gotten paler. What sunless tanning cream do you use? Is it a spray?

  88. I completely agree with you! When I look back at the photos of when I had my daughter I looked terrible. Of course the day is all about having the baby and it’s such an exciting time. But you also need to feel good about yourself! I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt like this. Thanks for sharing!

  89. I love this! I got lash extensions right before my baby and it made the biggest difference in my life. Especially in my birth video and all my birth pictures. I was sick as a dog during labor and didn’t end up doing my full makeup but was still able to feel semi-confident, which is really what it’s all about, women should feel confident in themselves when they’re giving birth. Also, lash extensions don’t run when you bawl the first time you see your baby. 😉 so excited for you and your little family! Good luck with everything!

  90. Thank you so much for posting this….I’m at the point where my husband and I have been married almost FIVE years and I’m so scared to have kids, fearing I’ll turn into a schlumpy hot mess, and wind up feeling badly about myself. I love that you prove you are able to not lose yourself when you have children. Much love!!!

  91. I 100% agree on the “Me” list. There’s definitely numerous things you’ve gotta do just for yourself before the baby comes. I wish I had gotten waxed haha I kept up with shaving but omg it is so difficult before baby is born then somehow even more difficult after baby is born. Next pregnancy, I’m waxing everywhere haha I also totally agree on nursing bras! I only bought two too thinking why would I need more. Within maybe two weeks I was cursing myself. I had NO clue how fast/dirty/smelly (tmi) bras could get. Wow. Eye opener right there! I’m more curious about lash extensions if you’ve got any other info on them. I have REALLY long lashes but they’re so light (like white blonde) that I look almost like an alien without mascara on haha if you’ve got any other tips/tricks for lashes I’d love to know more about them!

    Carly xo
9*10+0/*9<—and that's from my 11 month old son haha sorry

  92. For me I was utterly obsessed with getting my nails done before I had Joaquin haha!

    1. Thanks so much!! I am so glad you liked it 🙂 And yes, check them out! They’re so easy to use!! xo

  93. Definitely need to check out those Kate Somerville Tanning towelettes! I have yet to find a tanner that is really fast and can be done during nap time 🙂 I’m with you on the makeup when you have a baby! I don’t see why people find it crazy at all. You want your first pic with your child to be good and you’ll have it forever after all!! XO, Kelly

  94. Love all of these! Wish I had done some of these and made a list before my 1st came…I will def do it if I have a second down the road. Do you have any tips for using the tanning wipes, last time I used them I noticed they came out a bit streaky??? Love your blog

  95. thanks for sharing this post! I have baby one coming in January and an hoping to get some of these things done before he arrives!

    1. Thanks so much!! I am so glad you found it useful!! And congrats!! That’s so exciting!! xo

  96. I don’t think you are crazy to think about yourself and get ready and organized before baby #2 arrives. It’s important to feel good and give yourself a little pampering before since you know it’s all about the babies and it’s only going to get crazier after the birth! I have two of my own now (4 years and 15 months) and trust me, time is very limited! Being organized is the key and I’m still trying to figure it out! Best of luck with the birth! ps. You’re not too high maintenance…well…maybe a tiny bit! 🙂

  97. I loved this post! Not enough people talk about this kind of stuff, but I know for me it was super important. When I was pregnant I was paranoid about being manicured, pedicured, shaved (I wanted to wax, but I’m too much of a wuss), and perfectly hair-and-makeuped at all times the last couple weeks. I didn’t know when my baby would come and I was terrified of the hospital staff thinking I was unkempt or something, haha. 🙂 Plus I was so glad I made sure all that was done before I had my baby because I didn’t have to worry about it for a bit after. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much Danielle!! And you should totally try them!! Have a fab weekend too! xo

  98. Sounds good. I can understand you i also wanted to look nice while gaving birth. And don’t forget the speciall Massage with the speciall oil….???? i wish u all the Best for gaving birth. Go Girl go!!!! Juli

    1. Ahh so true!! How could I forget that?! 🙂 And thanks so much!! I hope everything goes smoothly! xo

  99. have you ever gotten waxed while pregnant? while I like to think of myself as having a pretty high pain tolerance and waxing normally is bothersome but not horrible, getting my legs waxed while pregnant shot me right into outer space. I almost passed out! I suggest you wait, if you can!

    1. I haven’t before!! But I am going to soon!! I am so nervous!!! 🙁 Maybe I will wait.. Yikes! Thanks for the heads up!! xo

  100. You go, girl! There’s no shame in wanting to look/feel good anytime…let alone when you’re giving birth. I say do what it takes to put your mind at ease – the transition from one child to two will add enough “new” to your routine and more to think about. Checking the other things off your list while you can is smart and reduces mind clutter. 🙂
    XO – Chris

    1. Thanks so much love!! I appreciate it! I agree, I want to reduce as many items on my “to-do” list as possible before baby girl haha 😉

  101. Amber, can you change this font on posts? It is really hard to read it. Thanks, Daisy
