Once we got to Japan we found out some news and had to cut our Japan trip a little short so we left early and changed our flights to fly to San Diego. It was a 22 hour travel day yesterday and because of the way the flights worked out we had to leave for the airport during their nap time so the kids didn’t get a nap. Then we flew during Japan’s night time and arrived at 5:30am Japan time but 10:30am San Diego time so basically the kids got zero sleep (They didn’t really sleep much on the plane!). I felt so bad for them but somehow they were still so happy and in fact they were more patient than I was on the flight. I was so antsy for it to be over (and mostly just stressing that they weren’t sleeping and really wanted them to catch any sleep) but they were content just hangin out. I even watched two full movies (Lion – soo good. And La La Land again – my favorite.) The kids got a long nap on the way to David’s sister’s house and then they partied hard with cousins. Now it is 1pm the next day and all of us JUST woke up! Atticus is actually still asleep. We slept for 13 hours straight and the kids even longer ha! Hopefully we are all caught up now. Kids are freaking troopers man!

So anyways now we are in here in San Diego with David’s whole side of the family and the kids are having a BLAST with their cousins. I love looking outside and seeing Atticus being carried by one of the 12 year olds and Rosie being pushed in a wagon by three cousins. They are all a big mix of ages (18 cousins total) but play so well together. The adults just hang inside and chat and we let the kids run wild outside.

These photos are from our first cherry blossom experience in Tokyo! We went to Meguro River and it was so beautiful! And crowded. But the crowds made it kind of fun. I am 5’10 and was wearing flat sneakers but still felt so tall. The kids basically just wanted to chase all of the dogs around and give them kisses.

I like these photos because they also show the in between ‘pretty photo’ stuff. I always say that for every pretty travel photo there was a lot of stuff in between to get there – flights, figuring out subways, getting lost, and with kids there is a lot of carrying strollers up and down stairs and stopping for milk breaks or playground breaks! And I like to have those memories documented too. Our subway experience was a really good one. We really liked their subway system and how they display what stops are next and where to go – we thought it was fairly easy. Well I should say, David thought it was fairly easy because I mostly just followed him haha. Their subways are also SO CLEAN!!! I didn’t see a single piece of trash anywhere. Or a trash can – they don’t have trash cans hardly anywhere in Tokyo and somehow it is the cleanest city we have been to next to Copenhagen.

Anyways – off to meet up with family now! Have a great day!!!!!

  2. A’s face when he sees the dog :-)) Amber, you make me want to travel more, when I see these posts (my fav thing to read your blog on Sunday morning)! And I really miss your video’s, when do we get to see some new vlogs?

    love xxx

    1. okay i don’t know what happened with my typing but *i truly enjoy* should not have come out like i don’t speak english haha!!

  4. Love the pics! How was it dealing with the language barrier in Tokyo? I know y’all have traveled so much with other languages but japanese is so different! Love you guys!! xoxo

  5. You do look SO tall in the photos and the shots with you and Rosie are the sweetest! I hope you blow them and frame them for your new house!

  6. Hi Amber! I’m Ángela and I’m from Chile. I just wanted to say that I admire the cute family you have, it’s lovely!! I’m 3 and a half years married and have a beautiful little boy, he is 1 year and 4 months old 😊 and I’m pregnant again! 17 weeks and 3 days ❤ we’re so happy, and seeing you guys is in some way an inspiration. I wish you the best! Keep doing what you do because you do it great 👌
Ps: I miss your videos on youtube 😊

  7. Wow. You were in Japan. I missed that i didnt see you during the Hanami (Cherry blossom viewing) in Meguro, it was fun although crowded. I live in Tokyo for several years.
The illumination viewing at nite was also awesome. Meguro was the no.1 best spot for sakura this year. I`m surprised you are really tall over the heads of the crowd 🙂
By the way, almost all the subway trains are clean but some part like in Shinjuku or Shibuya, nah. Lol
    Love all the post!

  8. I love these in between photos too! It looks like such a busy time, but also an amazing one. Your littles really are such troopers! I don’t think I would have adjusted that well to all of the travel and time change 😉

  9. I heard so many good things about Japanese and how they keep their cities clean is one thing I am so admired of. Loving all pics you shared on Japan trip and David is such an gentlement when taking care of all the stroller and the kids :))

  10. Personally – I think the “in between” shots make it way more interesting! Before reading your text, I saw the pics and was going to comment that I liked the new vibe. Though nice in moderation, I do think the same happy pics of kids, jumping, throwing in the air, etc. can get to be pretty repetitive on a lot of blogs. I end up just scrolling right by. Real life is what makes things interesting. Anyway, keep it up, really liking it!

  11. I swear your travel photos are the best Amber, I love that you share the behind the scenes stuff too! I love that photo of you standing in your pretty pink coat amongst the crowds where everyone is wearing a black jacket! Its a bit like that here in New Zealand sometimes, everyone seems to wear black coats so you stand out if you choose to wear a different colour – it’s great! Have a lovely Easter! x

  12. Whatever your post, your pictures are always so sweetest and so beautifully curated and edited. This is such a treat to read you week after week Amber & David, I really love travelling with you! Much love from London, Julie xx

  13. Gorgeous pictures! Can we pleeeaaase meet David’s family? 🙂 I’m sure I’m not the only one who is dying to see pictures of them and hear more about them- their ages, how many kids they have, etc. ( You’re family, I feel like I already know 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for reading!! I LOVE them too! One of my favorite sights of the trip.

  14. Wow that is a looong travel day. Your kids really are troopers because I would be cranky haha! I loved all these photos, its sort of like a behind the scenes post – but still so beautiful!

  15. Amazing photos, there are so many people there, wooow!! And congrats for your outfit, I love the coat 😉
Happy Easter to you and your family!

  16. These have to be some of your most gorgeous photos (and that’s saying something)! Those cherry blossoms are beautiful.

    1. Wow thank you for that compliment, that’s so nice of you to say! Thanks for reading 🙂

  17. Oh my goodness! The picture of you on the subway and also the ones of you in the crowd are some of my favorite pictures you guys have taken. I love the contrast!! As always, love reading your blog and following you guys around the world 😘

  18. These photos are lovely. I really like the fact that you try and document the little moments between what you consider “the prefect shot” and don’t just just keep them for yourself, but feel like you can share them with your followers. It makes me feel like I was along for the ride with you guys in Tokyo. I have never thought much about traveling there (though it’s on my list), it’s just not one of my top places, but after seeing your photos and seeing they have that Hello Kitty Restaurant, I want to visit soon-preferably when I can see all the beautiful cherry blossoms. Your children are adorable as always and I’m glad y’all had a safe trip! Also, I loved all your outfits I’ve seen you wear on this trip-they go so well with—what I imagine Tokyo’s fashion vibe to be. Hope whatever reason y’all had to hurry back for is settled now and I’ll be praying for you guys. I hope the kids keep having a great time with their cousins! There really is nothing like the friendship between cousins (or siblings)! Have a wonderful Easter! Take care! xO- Mary

  19. there are so many people there!! I cannot believe the subways are clean with that many people. I’m in NYC now and it’s so filthy!!

  20. Hey Amber,
I am totally in love with your Outfit! The shoes are awesome and the coat has such a pretty color! I also really like your glasses, you look very good wearing them. I wish glasses would look good on me too, they are so stylish and pimp every outfit. Hopefully I will find one that fits me one day 😀
Also I really love Rosies hair! She is just the cutest and I am so exited for her getting long enough hair, that you can braid them and make the cutest hairstyles!

I wish you a wonderful time with your/Davids family!
    Love from Germany
    Pauline <3

  21. I agree with Anna about how lovely it is to have seen you remain true to yourself throughout the years. I love what explorers you and your family are and you and David’s approach towards parenting. I really hope to be able to take that approach with my children when I have them one day (I am a bit type A so that may be a hurdle! lol). Thanks for sharing! Enjoy the time with your family and I hope all is well 🙂

  22. Such beautiful pictures and I know all to well how just going places with little ones can be challenging so big props to you and David! So awesome to hear you are in my hometown San Diego! Hope you have a great time with your family and fingers crossed for a possible meet up?! I would love to you meet you 🙂

  23. This photos is adorable! We have photos of Paris, photo in Eiffel Tower too. So, the photo on it. Your kids are something incredibly baeautiful, and your outfit is also something that the world model would not shame too. Your blog is simply GREAT!

  24. How do you “find” news? (you mentioned that you found some news)

  25. I mean, how can a familiy look so perfect?
I just to say, I think you habe problems too and maybe shitty times sometimes. But you override it so nicely! Woth your pics the guys feel so happy and if they habe got family, they may come over their shitty times.
I really like what you do! And I look forward to see more of you. You are one freaking good family! With amazing kids, and you can be f*cking proud of them and of you all!!

  26. I love that you are so tall! Hope all is well because you said you got news and had to leave early <3

  27. Hi Amber! You make traveling with 2 kiddos look so easy! I only have one and she is a mile a minute!
Love reading your blog, thanks for the positivity 💕

  28. I truly enjoyed seeing your photos from Japan because they captured the beauty of the blossoms as well as the joy you all experienced as a family. Isn’t that the best part?! – Getting to experience it all with your favorite people. My husband is in the Navy so I sure hope we get stationed in Japan sometime!
And, I’m so excited that you’re here in San Diego! That’s where I live! I hope you enjoy it and soak as much family time with extended family as you can!

  29. Cutest family ever!!💗❤️🙌 This year I’m starting a blog but I have no idea what to call my blog, any ideas or inspiration?! Thank you, Nancy

  30. You’re always so good at reminding everyone that you are in fact a real person! It’s the main reason I love your blog so much – life isn’t about those “pretty pictures”, it’s about everything in between. Thanks for sharing Amber!

    1. Thanks Samantha!! The cherry blossoms were amazing! We loved it there 🙂

  31. This has been my favorite post so far! Getting out of your comfort zone, and traveling to places around the world where bloggers have been resilient to conquer is the main reason I follow you. You and David continue to create unique content and provide breathtaking photos. You are constantly paving your own path which is so refreshing in this “blogger age”. Unlike Pink Peonies, Gal Meets Glam and other big blogs I think you’ve maintained your identity and creative brand without being sponsored by products in every post. Thank you for staying truly genuine, I think that is how you will continue to gain readers and followers. Blessings to you and your growing family! 🙂

  32. I love that pink Chanel handbag that you are carrying but what makes me not want to purchase one is because I hate their short straps, it drives me insane and looks so awkward. I work with a brand that let’s me borrow them to try and I get so annoyed every time they arrive and the strap is so short lol. But you look cute and love the pics!

  33. Ahh, have fun in SD with family! I come from a big family, too, so I definitely know what it’s like with the 10+ cousin crowd! I also have the bonus of them all being Italian and/or Portuguese haha! Anyway, I hope you all have a great Easter weekend!

    xo, Sofia

  34. I can’t stress enough how much I love your family! All your Japan pictures were beautiful….thanks for sharing. Always love seeing those big smiles on the kids faces.
So sorry you had to cut your trip short and hope everything is ok…

  35. These photos are so pretty! I love how you stood out in the crowd, Amber. If that was me, I’m not sure I would have liked it so much, but your beauty is just indescribable! Enjoy your time with your fam. Xoxo-JS
