TOP: English Factory / LIPSTICK (in these photos): MAC ‘pink nouveau’ with MAC ‘hue’ overtop / LIPSTICK (in tutorial): bareMinerals ‘infamous’

I have been wanting to film this hair tutorial for so long and finally did!!! I have always loved messy, undone looks and this one takes the cake in my book because it is SO EASY. Each time I do it, it looks so different. Sometimes I do the twist I do in this video, but sometimes I just pin it up messily more like I did in this post, here. Any way you do it, the key is the teasing and the half up. The half up is what will keep the height and volume. If you try to do this look without the half up you won’t be able to get the full effect 🙂

This hairstyle is also really great if you are trying to get your hair healthy and don’t want to put any heat on it. It also looks really cute with glasses! I wore this style with glasses in this post, here!

Have a good day! xo

  1. I honestly love you so much. You’re such an inspiration for me, and by the time I’m 25, I hope to reach at least half of your grace and elegance.

  2. You always pick out the best shades of lipstick!!! I love bare minerals and MAC..How do you get your makeup to look so natural?

  3. Love this look!!! What kind of camera do you use for your blog the pictures are gorgeous!

  4. I am obsessed with how your photos look in this post? How did you edit them to look so film-like? xo

  5. Hi! I just saw your snap about the negative feedback on this video. I love Brigitte Bardot and am so happy you posted this since it looks like a simple and quick updo for busy days. As for the constructive feedback you were asking for, I think the video felt a bit rushed and I did wonder how you got the hair to look perfect after the video finished (There’s the end of the loop of hair that I wasn’t positive how you got tucked in and looking so polished after the fact). Either way it’s a beautiful hairstyle and I will definitely try it, thanks for sharing!

  6. Hey I saw your snap story asking about why this video had dislikes and all I can think is that it kind of cuts out early. It looks like when the video stops the loop part is just left hanging out wildly, but the other angle and pictures make it look so polished, so it didn’t really show how you tuck that loop part in? Just a thought! As always you look awesome and your blog is my absolute favorite because of how personal and real you make it. Never stop being you and putting yourself out there because it’s what I feel readers connect with the most!

  7. Hi Amber my name is Michal and I live in Israel. Me and my friends have been following you on Instagram for a year now and I just want to say you are truly inspirational, you seem as a great mom who dedicates so much time for her kids but also doesn’t forget yourself.
I’ve just watched your snapchat story and it made me writing you this, because you should get more good comments, haha I guess that’s is thee reason why I’m writing this long post.
Finally, I love your hair tutorials especially the braid ones, actually I learned from them how to braid hairstyles to myself, so I would LOVE to see more of them braid ones instead of the others?
Live keeping up with your blog?

  8. Both of those rooms are so cute! I love how she did everything and can’t wait to see how your home will look in Arizona! Will you be able to take any of these pieces to your new home? I would hate to not take some-because they’re so beautiful! Best of luck with your new home and move-when the time comes! 🙂

  9. What products do you like for texture (I know you mentioned bumble and bumble) ? I have similar hair to you and sometimes it just seems flat and needs a boost. Just wondering what you like to use and how- blow dry, air dry, whatever ? Thanks Amber! I just love your family and blog ❤️

  10. I love this updo! And I also love your style, but unfortunately it’s always too expensive for me 🙁

    1. Thank you so much!! Glad you like the look 🙂 And I am trying my best to get in pieces of clothing for all price points. Thanks for the feedback! xo

  15. Hey Amber, I love your style and I have a little boy a month younger than Rosie. I know you mentioned in a previous post that you’re breastfeeding. (I think when she was sick) I’m always trying to find ways to dress up yet still be accessible…if you know what I mean haha. How do yo do it? Please share 🙂

  16. Such as classic and beautiful look! Love the outfit you styled with your hairdo xoxox

  17. I am so glad you did this tutorial. I have done this half up look but have never thought of twisting it up! I am doing this tomorrow for work. On weekends I do a messy bun nearly every day but now I have a quick updo to throw in the mix. Thanks!

  18. Hi Amber!
I found your blog not long ago and I just wanted to tell you how much I love your blog and what you stand for! Especially in being a mom but still taking care of yourself! Such a good role model for your chillens!? We have a baby boy also named Atticus! He’s a month older than Rosie. Keep doing what you’re doing! Have a good day!
    xo Amber

  20. Love your videos! Thanks for sharing. Also, your family is beautiful!

  21. Hi Amber ! Do you think it works with a side part as well? Center part doesn’t suit me…. xx

  22. This is very lovely! But what to do if you have really thick hair like mine? Will it stay up all day and is it not to heavy?

    1. Thank you so much!! And hmm it will definitely be harder with really thick hair but you may just need to reinforce it a little more 🙂 I would try it! xo

  23. Great tutorial! And you look amazing as always! I love that top, can’t find it in your link. Can you post a direct link to it? Thanks!
