The Kids' First Haboob

We had another haboob yesterday in Arizona and it reminded me that I still have these pics! Some readers have actually told me that haboob isn’t the correct term, but everyone in Arizona calls it that and I really love the word so I still like to use it 🙂 dust storms feel so apocalyptic and creepy – which I kind of love haha. Especially since it is always so sunny here, really any change in weather is so exciting. I also loooove the rain that follows these big dust storms we get! Warm rain in the desert is so magical it was so fun to experience it with the kids. I remember being little and having so much fun during the dust storms and thunder storms. BUT you do have to be careful of Valley Fever – my sister actually got it last year and it was very very scary and she is still dealing with it and will be on medication for another year or so. So, just be careful. I totally forgot about Valley Fever when we went out to play in the wind (it wasn’t that dusty where we were, we weren’t actually IN the dust storm just could see it and feel the wind) but still when you’re pregnant (specifically in your third trimester) Valley Fever is more dangerous so I was really kicking myself after we went outside. Def staying indoors for all future dust storms. (but the kids sure had fun haha!)

Afterwards we walked for hours in the rain and jumped in all the puddles. Atticus was so excited to pull out his hunter boots. Then we went on scooter rides and the kids pulled me around on the skate board. It was such a fun day!!!!

  1. Fun fact: haboob actually means “beloved” in Arabic! I wonder how the term migrated to Arizona! Adorable pics.

  2. You always seem to have so much spontaneous fun with your kids. I need to try and be more spontaneous with mine… it’s when they have the most fun!

  3. How fun! I live in North Phoenix and experienced the same thing. My husband and I have only been here for a little over a month and already been through 3 monsoons, haha! Do you live in AZ or are you just visiting?? So happy to have found your blog as a fellow newbie blogger 🙂

  4. Atticus on his scooter in only rain boots is so adorable and silly-my little one is the exact same way and I love it! I love dramatic weather pictures and these are so great! I love seeing the candid family shots you guys get and seeing the kids’ giant smiles. One more thing: where is Rosie’s dress from? I absolutely love that style on my mini! 💜

  5. I never heard of this until I saw your post! Looks so cool I wish we got these in Canada 😂 also, what do you eat in a normal day Amber? I’m trying to do a lifestyle change and need some new eating habits (I also do BBG like you 💛)
    Love you xx

  6. Such amazing photos! You guys always look like you are having the best time! 🙂 love your family. Where is your jumpsuit from?!

  7. I saw this on the Belgian news today and they mentioned Arizona and they showed similar pictures. I had to think of you instantly! Because I learned about the phenomenon from you :))
