Family & Life Update

I wanted to give you guys a life update because it has been a while and a lot has been going on! It is crazy because I share a lot on this blog and social media but they are still only glimpses into our life.
Here are some updates from the Clark Fam…

2018 On The Blog

1. Baby Nieces

We had TWO new nieces born in 2017!! June was born December and Blaire was born on New Years Eve! I got to witness June being born it was sooo amazing to watch my niece be born, so special and my sis Jamie did incredible. And with Blaire - I literally had seen my sis the night before and she said she wasn’t having contractions and then all of the sudden I wake up to a text that says the baby is born?!? She went in during the middle of the night and had a perfect and FAST delivery! I am so happy both babies are healthy and my kids are just smitten with these new cousins. So many fun times ahead with these girls.

2. Family Time

We have gotten to spend a lot of time with family lately which has been so nice. We got to spend Easter,Thanksgiving, and Christmas with David’s side as well as lots of visits in between. And we get to go see everyone in Utah next week! These are some of my cute nieces. Every time I see them I am always just so impressed with them. I was never as mature and cool as they are at their ages! Plus I love seeing their 90’s outfit choices because it seriously takes me back and I love it. Especially one of my older nephews – I love his rad 90’s style. Anyways these are just really really really good girls. Oh and I got to see my niece Izzie via skype for a quick minute on Christmas! She is serving her LDS mission in Panama City and she looks like rays of sunshine are bursting through her face – she is the happiest, cutest thing.

3. Cousin Love

These are (some) of the cousins! We are actually missing 6 more in this pic!! All such good kiddos. EVERY single night when we say prayers Atticus says he is thankful for his cousin Drew. And Drew’s mom (David’s sister Emily). It is really sweet. And he always tells me how Chauncey misses his cousins too. And I bet he does because those kids cuddle Chauncey nonstop when we are there!! He gets totally spoiled. We had 27 (if I counted correctly) adults and children all under one roof for Christmas break — it was madness but really fun. // I feel so bad for my sis in law who had to host – and yet she is somehow the most easy going person/angel and genuinely wanted us all there and didn’t ever complain once – I don’t think I would have been able to handle all that in our house haha.

Thanksgiving 2017 with David’s dad.

4. David's Dad

From David: 2017 was both a great, and a terrible year for the clark family. No year in which you lose a parent and a brother, can be the best year of your life. Yet somehow, we were able to achieve so much. But despite our 2017 successes, experiences, memories, and moments of growth, I can’t help but think I’d trade it all to see my dad
and brother again. I didn’t realize how much like my dad I am until later in life. Not just in looks, but in his energy, his voice, in everything he does. My hobbies, were his hobbies. My passions were his passions. He gave me so much and I’m so grateful for his example and
love for me and my family.

5. David's Brother Ehren

From David: When my brother passed, I received a phone call from my other brother, in tears. At this point in time my dad had been battling cancer for about 2 months, so I was certain it was news about him. He said just one tearful word… “Ehren.” I knew right away. It’s hard not to feel robbed, but I’m left with incredible memories of him, as my swim team coach, listening to him talk existentialism at the dinner table, doing the gallery stroll with him, or visiting him with the kids unable to leave his apartment empty handed without some book, gift or trinket that he’d carefully curated for each of us. I’ll hold onto these memories forever. As painful as it all still is, I’m sustained by the belief that I will see them again, and am thankful for eternal families. Onto 2018 and the mantra of, let’s all just stay alive.

6. Arizona

As for life in Arizona we are really loving being near my family and having our office. It feels really really good to have an office. After years and years of working from home I feel I can be more efficient and on my computer less around the kids when I just can run into the office for even a couple hours.

We are extremely happy to start the home build because the process so far has been a lot and I am ready to see it come to life now.

I would be lying if I said we don’t miss Hawaii, we talk about it all the time and I think those 6 months were some of the best we will have ever lived! -But I think Hawaii is like first class - once you try it nothing else is quite as nice ha! (I grew up in Arizona so I think I can say that?!) That is how Hawaii is for us.. and we do talk about moving back one day in the far future. I especially miss being really close with nature.. we were at the beach or hiking or in some jungle every single day. But now that weather is nice we are going to try and go into the desert more and do some hikes in Arizona! Because I do know that the desert can be beautiful too and Arizona does have killer sunsets! But all in all we are happy with our decision to move to Arizona and we feel this is the right place for us to be right now. And I don’t mean to rag on AZ – I do love it or we wouldn’t have come back.

7. Atticus

The words that come to mind about Atticus - sweet, loving, grateful, happy. A conversation that happens with him daily goes something like this…. Atticus: “can I have more juice” Me: “sure!!” Atticus: “awwww tank you mama!!!! Dats sooo nice.” He is always sooo grateful for the tiniest things, it is so sweet! He sleeps with us at night and is the snuggliest thing and this is one of my favorite parts of the day - just snuggling him all night! He starts soccer again this Saturday and I am really excited for him. He has had this week off preschool and its been really nice to have him home all day. He is my go with the flow - cool with anything kid. He is really more than happy with any situation we are in - I really love this about him. He is careful and cautious – he says “left ….. right” and looks both ways before crossing the street and loves to stand in front of me protecting me when he sees a car coming.

8. Rosie

Words for the Ro.. fun, silly, strong willed, and brave. She is fearless when it comes to anything, she doesn’t hesitate to try new things. She loves to swing as I as I can possibly push her (on the big girl swing too!) and would swing for 2 hours if I could stand in one spot that long and be that patient haha. I love her sense of humor – I could sit and watch her just be her all day – she is sooo funny! I love her quirkiness and that she tells jokes and laughs at herself. She walks around singing “let it goooo” from Frozen in her microphone all day. She also requests tap shoes every day, everywhere we go. She is pure sass which is funny sometimes but also like “woah” sometimes haha! She simply can’t hold still when a song comes on, she has to shake her booty and dance. She loves to pick out books for story time at home with mom or dad and loves loves loves tiny things - especially tiny animals. And she still sleeps with about 10 stuffed animals and when we lay her down she smiles and giggles because she is SO happy to be surrounded by all her little buds.

9. Social Life

We are really happy with our ward here (a ward is what we call our congregation at church) everyone is really down to earth and humble - which is really nice. We haven’t had much time to make new friends but we have made a few who we love! I sometimes feel guilty that I don’t do more playdates for the kids and I do want to be better at that. It is just with playdates I feel like its the adults talking while the kids play and I really want the quality time with the kids. But I do want to make an effort to do playdates more.

I have realized that this is a season of life for me where I probably won’t have much of a social life and if I didn’t actually enjoy working all night after the kids go down and during naps etc I may be upset about that - but I love my job so I am okay with the trade off for now. It is just a really important time for our business to grow and for us to work as hard as we can on it. Which means choosing work over hanging out a lot of times. I get to spend lots of time with my family too which is sooooo nice. We have family dinner every Sunday and I always look forward to that. And luckily my friends are all really understanding and just as busy. Everyone is busy its all just different kinds of busys. (busies? don’t know how to spell this made up usage of this word.)

10. Lifestyle Changes

The other day I had this epiphany as I was cleaning out my closet for what felt like the 100th time. I have a closet full of clothes but still would walk in my closet and think to myself “I have nothing to wear”. Then I had the realization that its because everything is colorful and printed (that is totally what I am drawn to!)- I wear it once and feel like because it is such a statement piece I can’t wear it again for a while. And that is silly. But then I realized that if I am wanting to go in the more minimal route and only have pieces I love and wear a lot.. I need to start purchasing more neutrals and versatile pieces. I took out (most) printed pieces and put them in a tub. Once I have a bigger closet I will decide if I want to pull them out again or get rid of them. But you will see me wearing a lot more simple, neutral, versatile, and casual pieces on here moving forward. It is just what makes most sense with how I want to move forward with my lifestyle. But I did keep some fun pieces in there. ;) In addition to other lifestyle changes I have been trying to be more aware of eco friendly products and incorporating some “zero waste lifestyle” aspects into our home. You guys know I have said I don’t like to dive head first into stuff like that because I want new habits to last but I am taking small steps and becoming more aware of it all and trying to teach the kids about it. Anyways maybe I will share some stuff we have been doing here on the blog soon! I will also share some bloggers I love to get inspo from in this area.

OUTFIT DETAILS
SWEATER | JEANS (Similar) | SNEAKERS | TEE

That is all for this months update! I hope you guys have a great weekend! We are planning to do a family hike before soccer practice on Saturday and we are really excited. Other than that we pretty much have no plans. Although I have been telling the kids we could go to the zoo soon so maybe we will do that?! I am also feeling bowling. Anyways see you all next week. xoxox

  1. I love that you’re incorporating some zero waste habits! I like, jumped for joy on the inside. You have an awesome platform to promote things like that. So many beauty bloggers don’t give a shhhh about waste or the environment. You go girl!

  2. Couldn’t agree with you more about pairing down the wardrobe. I used to shop (way too much) at anthropologie, and found myself with a closet full of over-priced statement pieces that didn’t go together. I have since then paired WAY down and most of my clothes are black, white, blush/burgundy (depending on season), and blue. I’m spending less of my income on things I’ll wear once and more on investment pieces I’ll treasure forever. It also makes packing for trips on the fly much easier! 😉

  3. Loved this post! Your nieces are so adorable and your sisters must be too, even though I’ve never seen them. Do they live close to you so you get together often?

  4. Your nieces are so cute and adorable and what pretty names! Do your sisters live close to you so you can spend time with them? Your sisters must be pretty too..

  5. What an exciting new chapter. Loved the post and think this new lifestyle will great for you. I loved your pictures in Hawaii that much it’s my next holiday

  6. I would love to hear more about eco friendly products you’ve tried and how you have started to incorporate some “zero waste” into your life, as well as some other bloggers I could follow for inspo about this topic as I would like to work on being more earth-friendly, but am not sure how or where to start!

  7. A really beautiful heartfelt post from you both. Keep doing “you” and the people you need will follow you. Especially I am thinking about being more minimal – if people have come for materialism then they may go somewhere else and that’s ok?!
Personally, I love that you are doing this. I’ve been heading down this route myself and it’s so freeing.

  8. Hi Amber,

Beautiful post! So thrilled to hear you are going to look at some zero waste options around your home. You should check out Unwrapped Life, a small, best friend ran company that specializes in solid shampoo and conditioner bars! Their Detoxifier set is a go-to for blonde hair and the bars are even gentle enough for the kids and for use on extensions!

Kudos for doing your part to protect our planet for our babies and their babies! <3

  9. The part you said about play dates is so true. I’m a first time mom of a very rambunctious 14 mo old boy, and I remember having other moms over to my house for a play date but the moms were talking so much I felt like I was missing my sons first play date. I am very interactive with my son so it’s so weird when he’s there playing and I’m not involved in that play.
I had Atticus at the top of my list for my son (and this was before I started following your blog 🙂 ) but my husband said no. I finally found a perfect name for him when I was 41 weeks along…that boy wasn’t coming out until I had found the perfect name for him haha

  10. Loved getting an update on your family’s life! I hope 2018 is a wonderful year for you all, filled with more fun adventures and less heartache. What an amazing family you have!

  11. I loved this life update, it’s one of my favorite posts you’ve done. I’m in Arizona too and I’ve really been trying to embrace the play dates, especially right now while the weather is so amazing! Also, I’m excited to hear more about this zero waste thing. Good luck and keep us updated!

  12. You are the cutest! Your family is absolutely “goals” ! I maybe don’t know you but you’re spreading such good vibes that I can’t do anything else but love you! Best wishes 💋

  13. I lived on the NS for a couple of years too. My daughter was born there, and it’s where my husband grew up. We left on a whim & I think about being there every.single.day! Almost to the point where it drives me a little crazy lol. Where we live now Is better for us for the time being…but I know I’ll be back living there in the future also! Glad to hear I’m not the only one that feels this way 🙂

  14. Ahhh I loved reading this! I’ve followed you for a years now, it’s crazy how much the kids have grown. Wishing you and your family all the best for 2018 <3

  15. What a year! I feel like every year has it ups and downs, but it’s been a joy watching all your adventures!!! We’ve been traveling the world with our two girsl for the entire year and after reading your Hawaii posts we now knonw we need to spend time there!! Also, I feel ya on the friends side too! This year I’m looking for authentic gf that are real! Thanks for always sharing and being honest! x, kathryn

  16. Love your family life and i take example yours lif i hope i will have happy family 🙂 always following you good by 🙂

  17. Love hearing about your kids! My 2.5 year old daughter is a mix of the both of them – totally spunky and just wants to dance, but so sweet and says “oh, thank you mommy!” 100x a day. I love it!

  18. Keep wearing all the bright bold colors and patterns! They are SO you, and we don’t care if we see the same piece on repeat! Most of us wear clothes on repeat, we just don’t have the pics to document 😉 Love your positive attitude, glad your new ward is down to earth. All the best as the Clarks work through grief.

  19. In all of the years that I’ve followed you, this is my favorite post you’ve done. Don’t take this the wrong way, but I hear so much maturity in your words and your goals. You have been very blessed and have done more than most of us ever dream of, but in focusing on the small things, you’ll find that a whole new world is about to open up for you.

  20. I hope David is doing okay. There aren’t any words that can express how sorry I am for the grief you’re going through. Praying for your family and hoping you guys have an amazing new year 🙂

  21. Love your family! I have been following for years and I’m so stoked to see where you’ve gone. Please post if you’re going to sell any of those amazing prints!!;)

  22. Are you building in Gilbert or somewhere else in East Valley? We would love to do a custom home by other than a few pricey lots on Shea, I’m not sure where there’s lots that allow you to do a custom home. You’re new home plans look AH-mazing!!

  23. Love the updates on y’all’s year! I’ve been following you a few years now and the kids are growing so quickly (mine is 6 already!). Happy 2018!

  24. I had the same epiphany with my closet! I buy floral pieces because they look amazing on you, but they are such bold pieces that it’s hard to wear again. I need to do the same thing. I’m wishing you and your family the best in the new year, love seeing the little ones grow!

  25. I love to read these kind of updates! I am very interested in hearing more about zero waste! I need inspiration on that area. I saw that someone wrote about the documentary “The true cost” on Netflix and I can really recommend it. 🙂

    1. I’m so excited to see what Amber will talk about with zero waste ideas too!

  26. Wow can I relate to almost every point you made. I know I get to edit your precious babies in videos but I’ve always picked up that sweet & grateful side of Atticus & it reminds me SO much of Afton. She’s so content in every situation & so happy. Also, my husband’s dad & brother passed away within 11 months of each other & so reading David’s words made me emotional because I’ve witnessed how complicated grief can be & he so eloquently was able to iterate how he felt. Prayers for you all.
Lastly, the work life balance when you love your job & are building a business is 100% my life stage as well. When we aren’t doing video, we are heading to the beach as a family & it doesn’t even occur to me to set up play dates instead! I also feel introverted enough that it doesn’t bother me right now. Afton isn’t in preschool yet so she’s not meeting friends yet (she missed the age cut-off & also she’s in the middle of speech so that takes up a few days!) but she’s absolutely in love with her life & hanging with her brother & cousins. I feel like that’s okay too 🙂 Anyways, thanks for this post. I connected to it a lot. Much love, Em

  27. Amber, I really enjoyed this life update. My heart breaks for David and your family but I am so happy to see all the support, love, and success you guys have created as a family. You both are so genuine and humble and I just love following your journey.

  28. That is one busy year you’ve had, with all its highs and lows 🙂 Thanks for sharing it so genuinely, it’s always so refreshing and inspiring to read your posts 🙂 I love how you said Hawaii is like 1st class, it changed me too when we went there. Trying to go back this year and then as often as we’ll be able too…from Canada it’s a little further ahah! All the best always xx

  29. This post just motivated me enough to start a blog. I want to be able to document my memories like this and moments.

  30. Amber! You should SO wear your statement pieces more often!! I used to be like this with my clothes too but then I was just like who cares?! I’m just making a statement all the time haha and if someone does see me wearing the same outfit twice well then they just know how much I love that outfit!! I watched a documentary on Netflix called “The True Cost” about fast fashion and it totally opened my eyes to the clothing industry and how harmful and polluting it can be. Now I try and wear every piece in my closet at least 30 times before I pass it on/donate it. Sometimes it takes me more than a year but I just keep at it! I want to wear and use and live in all the clothes that I love 🙂

  31. Thank you for sharing:) My husband and I (and 2 year old) are transitioning and were looking to move to Hawaii for a bit. Can you share about the area you were in/love? Or do you have any ideas, tips or contacts for a short (to long term) move? Thank you for any help! Xo

  32. Love this!!!! Could you please please please do a blog post on choosing a more neutral wardrobe? I too have been struggling lately with my clothes and have realized that I need to start buying high quality, staple neutral pieces. I don’t know where to start 😫

  33. I don‘t know why but this blogpost really touched me. in the last weeks I got over a really terrible heartbreak but now reading about your life and your positive additude about everything. it just makes me happy. even though I don‘t know your family, I love all of you! XoXo

  34. I’m so looking forward to seeing your minimal style! That’s totally me and I’m always looking for more inspiration

  35. All so sweet! Love you’re idea about putting printed items in a tub and just living with more neutrals and classic pieces. I have always been attracted prints, sequins, and bright colors, but the older I get, the more I want a simplified, polished look. However, I can’t bring myself to part with my “fun” items, so this is a good solution! Thanks for the idea!

  36. Thanks for the update! I’m excited for you to share your new habits. Best wishes on a thriving 2018!

  37. I MISSED THISSSSSS!!!!! I am Spanish and I love to stop what I am doing only to open my google translate and learn so many vocabulary you use! But of course I love what you write!! Here in Spain the 5th at night come 3 people ( REYES MAGOS) and its like Santa, so tomorrow at morning we open the presents they left and I am super excited to know how good I behaved this year🤔😂😂😂 i do don’t know why I am telling you this but I couldnt resist!!!

  38. This was such a beautiful life update, Amber. I loved hearing about everything that’s been going on in your life. I appreciate you and David sharing so much with all of us, even the heartbreaking moments. Wishing you all the best in the new year!

  39. Awww love love love your family. I started following you almost two years ago and you’ve been such an inspiration to me. I was so nervous to start my own blog until my fiancé finally bought me a domain and said DO IT! With the wedding planning and so much happening personally, I haven’t been able to dedicate myself to it but I’m hoping after February I can really dive into it. I love what you do. You’re family is the most beautiful and sweetest.

    Much love

  40. I hope 2018 is an amazing year for you and your family! P.S. I do that with my clothes too, although I don’t know why. I have a favorite outfit and then think “well I can’t wear this again for awhile.” Um…why NOT?! Live your life, girl! Haha! So that’s one thing I’m trying this year as well. 🙂

  41. TWELVE THINGS ABOUT THIS POST:

    1. I cried my eyes out!!!
    2. Your way of writing makes me feel like I’m reading a letter from a friend, or something I’ve written myself. You can hear your voice in each post and that makes me feel like we’re BFFs 🙂
    3. The fact that you’ll be steering more toward neutral pieces means alot to me. Weird, I know, but I’ve always been really shy about prints/color and envied your style so now I will be able to relate more!!
    4. Your family photos are always so beautiful — they remind me of pictures I’d find in old family albums and make me feel warm!
    5. Atticus looks so much older with his haircut!
    6. I love when your posts are lists! Lists are very satisfying to read hahah!!
    7. What are other songs Ro likes to sing?!
    8. I love that you go to church! Can you talk more about how you implement your spirituality in your everyday lives?
    9. Your energy and good spirit are so inspiring and have been motivating me more
    10. Will you show more recipes soon? Your healthy snacks video is a staple for me LOL
    11. Congratulations on all you’ve been accomplishing!
    12. You’re an amazing role model. Your attitude, willpower, and lifestyle choices are so nice to see (especially these days) and I just really appreciate what you do and how much you care about your followers and your content. It means so much.

  42. I love when you do update blog posts! They are extra fun to read 🙂 I am really inspired by your style of parenting – I feel like you are extremely intentional with your parenting and I love it. I love how you are always searching for ways to spend more time with your kids, do something special for them, or even as simple as how positively you speak about your kids! I especially love reading your positive parenting posts when Im feeling overwhelmed as a parent. It helps me put things into perspective and feel inspired to be extra intentional as well (even when Im exhausted lol). Random question- do you have any parenting books or podcasts you recommend that have really inspired/helped you?

  43. Oh Amber, what a beautiful blog! I read your blog every once in a while and get so happy when I see a glimpse of Emily and Sarah. You are truly correct when you describe Emily as an angel. I was in Emily’s & Sarah’s ward in CA and haven’t seen them in a few years since we moved. I truly am sorry for David’s father and brother’s passing. So much heartache in one year for a person! But, so much to rejoice for knowing that they will all meet again. I gave up social media a year ago and reading your blog today was so organic. You have a beautiful family (truly wonderful and beautiful sister in laws…I sure miss them) and a genuine heart. Don’t let anyone ever take that joy away from you. Always stay true to yourself……Happy 2018 to you, David and your babies!

  44. Love this update Amber!!! The kiddos are getting so big! Tell David I’m sorry for both of his losses. I can’t imagine what he’s going through

  45. I love this post so much. Just hearing about your life and updates, it makes it feel like we’re actually real life friends…? I’ve been following you for what feels like forever now and it is so refreshing to see the new direction your life is going in but to still see the same fun-loving little fam that I adore! I’m so excited for you and your business, your new home, your family and life in general. Thanks for being such an inspiration to us all! Xoxo-JS

  46. This is so candid. Really refreshing to read. I think as parents we go through many “seasons of our lives” and accepting them as phases and appreciating them for what they are is vital. Happy 2018 to you and yours.

  47. I lost my Dad Christmas Day 2016, so this time of year is always tough. Reading David’s part of this post made my heart ache- somehow the feelings surrounding death are so similar, and at the same time incredibly unique to each person. “mantra for 2018, lets just all stay alive” hahaha I laughed out loud and immediately texted my mom and sister asking if we could use this too. They were very much for it haha. I’ve read your blog for years and years and have never commented, but just felt compelled to say I hope you guys are staying strong and have a perfect 2018 <3

  48. Love your update posts! I miss AZ like crazy! I’m in Austin TX now, which is amazing, I just miss the freedom of driving to CA on the weekend , having the mountains close, just a lot of options to go visit other places around! Love the PHX zoo!

  52. Loved reading about what you have been up too! Sounds like a lot has been going on. Sorry about all the deaths in your family! I had four deaths in my fam this year, brother included, so I know how it feels to have so many tragic things happening in the midst of so many good things. I love the idea of you going minimal with your clothing choices- so I look forward to seeing what outfits you style in the future!!
