DRESS: Zara // FLATS: Chanel (similar here) // SWEATER: Nordstrom // CURLING WAND: NuMe

The other day I promised Atticus we would go get treats because he was such a good boy! So we went on a little date πŸ™‚ he absolutely loves bread of all kinds, especially croissants. So we went to a little french bakery and ate croissants! During his nap I filmed a tutorial for the hairstyle I wore that day and I am excited to share it because it has been highly requested! I am showing you how to do my half up halo braid with soft curls.

The NuMe wand I am using in the video is a part of the power couple package that also comes with a straightener and right now with code AMBER2016 you can get it for $79 + free US shipping. Or if you want just a wand you can use codeΒ BRAIDLOVE to get it for $39 + free US shipping!Β Hope you guys like the tutorial!

  1. I am currently obsessed with braids and I love seeing all the different ways you incorporate them into different hairstyles!!

  2. Amber! What size curling wand do you suggest?? Do you like the NuMe 25mm or 35mm better!?

    1. The 32mm will give you more loose beachy waves and the 25mm will give tighter more defined curls, so it just depends but I typically use my 32mm πŸ™‚

  3. Hi Amber, I just wanted to tell you that I have made this hairstyle with my hair and it looked so good! And not only that but total strangers on the street and in the tube approached me complimenting on my hair, plus people were just smiling at me. Even in the night club a girl came to me complimenting on it πŸ™‚ I am loving it! I am sure you get so many compliments too, but I really did not expect this! Thaaaanks so much for showing us this cute hairdo! πŸ™‚ Sonja

    1. Hi love!! I am so glad to hear that yay!! I bet it looked great πŸ™‚ Stay tuned for more hairstyles!! xo

  4. Love this look!! I am currently trying to purchase this dress for a wedding I’m attending but I’m not sure what size to get!! What size did you purchase?

    1. Thanks so much!! And I got in a size small. It has an oversized look already so I definitely wouldn’t size up πŸ™‚ xo

  5. You are seriously so stunning! Love all your tutorials I can’t wait to try this one out! πŸ™‚

  6. Love this hairstyle so much! Have wore it to class and church and get so many compliments on it! Always reference your tutorials when people asked how I learned to braid my hair so many ways πŸ™‚

  7. Do you guys just have a preset in Lightroom that you apply to all your photos? I love the consistency.
    EmmyJake

    1. We customized all of our filters, so sorry I can’t be much help there πŸ™‚

  8. Beautiful!! Going to try this tomorrow! ???? also, what editing program do you use? And do you use a certain preset? Love the consistency❀️

  9. hey amber! i was wondering how long the discount codes will last?? i’m a college girl trying to wait until my next payday to get it πŸ™‚ i used your last coupon code on the 32mm and love love love it! now i’m wanting the 25mm

    1. Hi Emily!! That’s a great question!! I am not sure about that so let me check πŸ™‚ I am guessing a few days?! xo

    1. Thank you so much!! And I totally checked out your tutorial, and loved it! You are gorgeous!! xo

  10. I’m just curious what you think the best hair brush to use would be? I’ve tried several but I keep reading things about how they’re all damaging. so which do you prefer the most?

    1. I personally love the WetBrush and that bristle brush in my tutorial is from Sephora!! πŸ™‚

  11. Hi Amber,

can you tell me if you are using the 32MM or the 25MM wand?

  12. I loved this hairstyle when I saw it I tried it right away! I mean it wasn’t perfect but I still loved my messy braid crown anyway hahaha and then my friends little sister actually asked me to do the braid for her high school dance and she looked gorgeous! Love the pictures and I was also wondering what you use to edit photos or if you edit them at all? Thanks again!
    -Hope
    http://hopealexandra.com

    1. I bet it looked so cute!!! Because you are gorgeous and it sounds like you’re a braiding pro now! And I agree, I love the messy look too πŸ˜‰ As far as editing, I use program called Lightroom!! xo

  13. I tried this and it worked with my short hair!!! Got so many compliments. Your photos are so amazing! What kind of camera do you use and what lens???? Is your husband a photographer? ! So good

    1. No way?! I am glad to hear that because I wasn’t sure how it would work on short hair!! I bet it looked gorgeous on yoU! πŸ™‚ And we use a canon 5d mark iii with several lenses: 24-70mm, 20mm, 200mm, and 50mm. And yes, he takes pretty much all my pictures!

      1. He is a professional. They are so good!!!! How are they so bright and white and inviting? Love that style. Looking for vacay spots for me and my boyfriend. Been combing through the travel section. May sail the greek isles this summer. πŸ™‚ Would love you to post any other getaways or tips on how to find vacation spots (I’m terrible at online research!) that are fun for couples!! <3 xo

        1. You are too kind!! Thank you!! I will definitely pass along that compliment to him πŸ™‚ And how fun!! Greece was one of my favorite places for sure and it is perfect for couples! And that is a great idea for a post, thanks so much!! You will have to let me know where you end up going! πŸ˜‰

  14. Your hair looks perfect!! Also what shade of lipstick are you wearing in the picture with you and A eating? I love the color????

  15. I always feel delighted when reading your posts, especially when it comes with floral and braids like this one. You look stunning, I love everything in this post. Since the last time I chatted with you here, I am now beginning establishing blog posts weekly on my blog Thanhhuyen135. I mean there ‘re lots to learn but for now I am just exploring blogging world haha. Wish you and family all the best xx

    1. That makes me so happy to hear πŸ™‚ Thank you so much for following along!! Thanks for the sweet comment! And yay! That is awesome!! Keep it up and have fun with it!! πŸ™‚

  16. Hi Amber! You all are one beautiful family. May I ask you what size of the zara dress are you wearing? They only have a M left and I wonder if it is supposed to fir rather loose or if it’ll just be too big on me. I’m normally a size S in Zara if they have XS as an option, but typically a size M, if only S,M, and L is offered… I love how yours fit. It’s so beautiful!!! Thanks a bunch!

    1. Hi love!! Thank you so much for the sweet comment πŸ™‚ I appreciate that!! And as far as the dress sizing, I got a size small. So I would say it is definitely a little bit of an oversized look, so medium may be too big?! πŸ™

  17. Hi Amber! I just wanted to say that you have a beautiful family, and that you are definitely my favorite blogger, ever. Much love from Venezuela????????❀️

    1. Aww thank you so much!! That is so nice of you to say! Thanks for following along!! xo

  18. Love love your hair! I’ve been following you for a few years now, hoping one day my hair will grow thick enough to have lush locks! I wanted to ask you what filter you use for your pictures on afterlight?

    1. Thank you so much!! I am glad you like the hair style πŸ™‚ And I actually have custom set filters on Lightroom, so sorry I can’t be much help there. πŸ™‚

  19. You remind me so much of Gabriella Wilde from the movie Endless Love!! Haha You’re both gorgeous!! And in the movie her boyfriends name is David so even more in common! haha LOVE your blog and your vlogs!!

    1. That is such a compliment because she is gorgeous!!! So thank you πŸ™‚ xo

  20. Wow, this is so gorgeous! Your blog is so beautiful πŸ™‚

  21. I got this dress on 5th ave today and I am in love with it, now that I see you have it I’m even more excited! Tomorrow I am going to mass at St Patrick’s, and I’m in town for a few more days! You should totally do a meetup if you have the time! Keep staying perfect, love you lots! ????

    1. Yay!! I am so glad you love it too!! I bet it looks stunning on you πŸ™‚ And ahh I would love to meet you too! This week is crazy busy, I so wish I could!! Love ya and I hope you’re having a blast!! xoxo

  22. Yay, thank you for this tutorial! I ordered my wand and straightener just now! Can’t wait to use it! πŸ™‚ your pics from Mexico look beautiful I can’t wait to take my daughter Marlee and hubby there again!

    1. I am so glad you liked it!!! Thanks for watching! And woohoo!! You will love them!!! Let me know what you think when you get them πŸ™‚ xoxo

    1. Thank you pretty girl!! I appreciate that πŸ™‚ And someone said they were able to do it on shorter hair so maybe you could?! xo

  23. Hi Amber loved the tutorial! I’m waiting for my hair to grow more, I’m taking Biotin pills to help it grow. Those Channel flats look so chic!
    marinayege.com

    1. I am so happy you liked it!! Thanks so much πŸ™‚ And oh awesome!! Those pills will definitely help speed up the process! xo

  24. OMG, this is literally one of my favorite hairstyles ever!! I’ve been waiting for a post like this for months so thank you very much for doing it! I love the half up halo braid and I love the curls even more:) I have some questions for you, it would be awesome and super nice of you if you answered:
    1. Which wand did you use? Is it a 25mm or a 32mm?
    2. If you had to choose between buying a curling iron or a wand what would you choose? At the moment I have a curling iron but it’s very “small” so I don’t like the result.
    3. How would you describe your haircut to a hairdresser?

Say hi to your beautiful family, you’re definitely life goal Amber! πŸ™‚
Kisses from an italian fan, I’m obsessed with your pics xx

    1. Yay!! I love hearing that πŸ™‚ So glad you liked it!! And the wand is a 25mm. And I think I prefer a wand over a curling iron just because it is easier and faster for me, I am all about convenience! And I honestly just get a trim (a few times a year), the layers you see are leftover from forever ago. They are super slow to grow! I hope that helps!! Thanks for the sweet comment!! xoxo

  25. Hi Amber! Superb hair tutorial! You really inspired me to do new hairdress day by day. ( before I did only ponytail or just waved my hair on curler and now my favoutit is dutch pig tails???? . Actually this hair style is so easy-to-do and so lovely ! I like it very very much???????????? ) Waiting with impatience for your next hair tutorial !!xoxo

    1. Thanks so much Tanya!! I am so happy you liked it and try them out!! xo

  26. Girl you’re absolutely stunning! Everything I know about hair I know thanks to you. Which, thank goodness cause otherwise my hair would have no hope! Looove this post, always love seeing what you guys are up to, day to day! Hope you’re all doing well πŸ™‚

    1. You are seriously so sweet!! Thank you so much babe!! And yay! I love hearing that πŸ™‚ Thanks for following along!! xo

  27. So cute! I tried the braid for a double date last night and got so many compliments!

  28. I love this hair style I’m going to try it on my daughter today she has long beautiful hair , no extensions needed lucky girl! What lipstick are you wearing in this braid tutorial? Thanks again for sharing your styles❀️

    1. Thanks so much!! πŸ™‚ And wow! Lucky girl! I am sure it will look perfect! And my lipstick is the shade Fanfare by MAC! xo

  29. Loved the tutorial…thanks. BUT as a former hairdresser, I cringed when you used your teeth to open the Bobby pin. Yikes! Please preserve your teeth by holding pin between thumb and forefinger of your right hand and use your left index finger to flick open the pin for use. If you chip a nail…it will grow back. Not so much for teeth. Stay beautiful!

    1. Thanks for watching!! πŸ™‚ And I guess I never thought of that haha!

  30. Hey ! Finally writing a comment on ur blog as i am too lazy to write my views ???? hehe ! But i always check ur blog and ur pictures are perfect! A and R Are sooo cute nd ur family is goalssss , ????i love u guys , i am from india so its so much fun to see what people do and how they live across countries , but i feel such a good bond between us that makes me feel happy , and now i dont know what to write but still writing haha , anyways stay happy nd i hope to get a smile on ur face through my little sweet message to u ! ????????????????????????????

    1. Hi!! I am so glad you left a comment, I loved reading it!! πŸ™‚ You are SO sweet, and I am so happy you enjoy my blog! That makes me happy!! xo

  31. Your hair is just classily beautiful. Is it thick on its own or do you use extensions to get those fat fabulous braids we see on other posts? My hair is fine and thin and I’m growing it out but my little girl has hair down to her waist now but it’s also fine and thin. I was wondering if you had a secret to those gorgeous fat braids that doesn’t include extensions. We smile everyday we see your beautiful posts. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Thank you so much!! πŸ™‚ And I use extensions for pretty much every hairstyle because I need the thickness. And ahh that is hard, the only I advice I have is to really “pancake” your braids so they look really full! But I know what you mean, I have thin hair too and unfortunately it is something that can’t really be changed. Thanks for reading and following along! I appreciate it!! xo
I linked a video below that demonstrates what I mean by “pancaking” your braids πŸ™‚
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyYwf-JlUpE

  32. Love this, I have long super thick hair and am always trying new things to hide the bulk. I was hoping you had tips on controlling the angle of the braid, mine never lay where I need it to.

    1. Thanks so much!! And as far as controlling the angle, for me, it is all about how I place my hands, it helps me angle my braids easier. Thanks for the feedback! πŸ™‚

  33. Your hair is so gorgeous! Love it! I love braiding my hair and always find your videos and tips super helpful! Thanks πŸ™‚

    1. That is so sweet of you!! Thanks so much for watching the tutorial πŸ™‚

  34. I love this hairstyle! I wanted to know what size barrel you used?! Is it the 19mm or 25mm wand? πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you so much!! I hope you were able to try it out πŸ™‚ xo

  35. I did it today and since I have so much hair it looks like I have a tire on mi head lol So I tried with smaller portions of hair and it kind of worked. It still doesnt look proportioned but maybe some day haahaaha
I think is too cute that you are going on dates with Atticus!! Show him how to be a true gentleman!!

    1. Yay!! I am so glad you tried it out! And haha oh yeah right! I bet it looked gorgeous πŸ˜‰ It definitely takes practice (for me too)!! xo

  36. Thank you so much for this tutorial! This hairstyle is so pretty and..perfect when you have kids (still looks good when a little bit messy πŸ™‚ ). I was looking for something quite simple and quick for a party tomorow and here it is ! Unfortunately my hair is not as thick as yours (and dark) but hope I’ll be able to make it.

    1. Of course!! Thanks so much for watching!! I am happy you liked it πŸ™‚ And I used my extensions to add thickness for this! xo

    1. Thank you so much!! You are too sweet!! And yes it is so yummy!! I am spacing on the name of it.. let me get back to you on that πŸ˜‰

  37. I love that halo braid so much ! You honestly always have the most amazing braids, I feel like my hair isn’t thick enough or something and my braids always end up looking small and sad but I am going to have to attempt this one and see if it works out haha ! Love your dress also <3

  40. You are so good with hair and make it look so easy, if I tried it, it would look terrible. Keep up the great work.

  41. Gorgeous as always! Can you please share what you use presets – filters you used when editing your photos? i just love them.

    1. Thank you so much!! πŸ™‚ And unfortunately, all the filters I use on Lightroom are custom-set by me. Sorry about that!! xo

  42. Love this! Totally wearing it right now, haha! And your dress is beautiful! I LOVE how it twirls. How fun that you did a special little date with Atticus. He is just too cute. And he’s right. Croissants are THE BEST! All those yummy layers… mmmm..

    1. I am so happy you loved it!!! Yay!! I bet it looks gorg on you!! πŸ™‚ Thanks for the comment!! xo

    1. Yay!! So glad you liked it and tried it out πŸ™‚ I bet it looked gorgeous on you!!

  48. I love seeing your personal style come through in the pieces you wear, regardless of the price, but it’s neat when the pieces are more affordable like this dress! I’m going to try this hairstyle this weekend.

    1. That is such a nice compliment, thanks so much Morgan!! πŸ™‚ xoxo

  49. Amber will you please make a “French braiding for dummies” tutorial? ???? I feel like a lot of your amazing hairstyles require French braiding and I can’t seem to master that! Thank you! ????

    1. That is a good idea haha! I totally should πŸ™‚ Thanks Emily!!

  50. First off, love you. Your life is magical! Secondly, what other products do you use for your hair? Specifically, what do you do with your hair after you wash it to minimize breakage? I have pretty long, highlighted hair as well and have loved all of the other products you recommend so I figured id ask!

    You rock!

    1. You are seriously so sweet!! Thank you Lauren!! πŸ™‚ And I honestly rarely blow dry my hair, I love to let it air dry (it definitely helps keep it healthy). As far as products, I love Bumble & Bumble Blow Dry Repair (for when I do blow dry my hair), and I love Oribe beach wave and shine spray. I hear their texturizing spray is amazing too!!

  51. A HAIR TUTORIAL? YASSS!!! It turned out so pretty! Something about little ones in big chairs just looks so adorable to me. A looks so grown up eating right accross gfrom you haha

  52. Yay! Love your hair tutorials, especially the ones where you incorporate extensions . Your pictures are so cute with little A!

    1. That is so kind of you to say!! Thank you so much for following along πŸ™‚

  56. Ughhh that dress is seriously beautiful…. You are the best Amber!!!!

  57. So lovely! And your dress is gorgeous! I tried to do something similar to my hair today (I literally spent all morning look at pictures of how you braid your hair) and went with a half up-half down braid look. But I’m desperately waiting for my hair to grow out again so that I can get some long braids going again like yours. Such inspiration!

    Sweet Horizon

    1. Thank you so much!! I am glad you liked it πŸ™‚ And I bet the half up/half down braid looked gorgeous on you!! xo

  59. So beautiful!!!! I wish that I had hair like yours so that I can do that!! You are stunning as always!!!!! What a fun date with your little guy!!! He is so stinkin’ adorable!!!!!
Just a quick question, what is the brand of that hair brush that you are using in the video?

    1. Thank you Lori!! You are so sweet!! I am glad you liked the tutorial!! And I love to use a WetBrush and my bristle brush in the tutorial is from Sephora!! πŸ™‚ I hope that helps!! xo

      1. Thank you love! But the brush in the picture looks like it has bristles and not plastic like the wet brush I have, if you that makes any sense! Ahaaa!!! ????

        1. Yes!! I am sorry!!! I didn’t realize I had in the tutorial πŸ˜‰ But yes I love that bristle brush too!! It is from Sephora!! xoxo

          1. Ahhhh! You are the best!!! Appreciate that so much!!! I just checked Sephora and could not find it but will keep looking! Thanks so much!!! ????????

  61. I love that hairstyle, but I just cut my hair jeje i don’t think i can braid it all around my head, but i’ll try i side braid πŸ˜€ Aaaand i’m excited about the CODE!! i think i’ll get it, do know if i can buy with an internation credit card and ship it to a US address? i don’t live in the US but someone is going next week and could bring this for me :D.

    1. Thanks Lily!! I am glad you like it πŸ™‚ And I actually had another reader say they were able to do it with short hair, so maybe give it a try?! And I hope you were able to get a wand!! xoxo

  62. This is so awesome!
Is it possible to make something like that also with shorter hair?
Maybe you have some tips for the length of the hair that are little bit over shoulders?

    Best wishes,
    Zane <3

    1. Thanks so much!! And I actually had another reader say that they did it with short hair, so I guess it is!! Definitely try it out πŸ™‚ xo

  63. This is great! I’ll definitely be doing this once my hair grows out! I chopped it all off last summer (11 inches!!!) to donate and don’t think I’ll be doing it again any time soon… it was slightly traumatic, but for a good cause! Thanks, Amber πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks so much Sara!! I am so glad you liked it! And wow that is so awesome of you!! Definitely a good cause πŸ™‚ I am sure it will grow back quick too! xo

  64. Love this look! Going to try to recreate this for a wine tasting party tomorrow night. Do you use any product on your hair to prep before curling and also what hairspray do you use… your hair always seems so soft and touchable?!! Thanks

    1. Thanks Kristen!! So glad you liked it πŸ™‚ And yay! I bet it looked gorgeous on you!! And I as far as product, I will use some texturizing spray (Oribe) usually and hairspray (Morrocan Oil) it after! xo

    1. Aww thank you Megan!! He loves going out to get little treats πŸ™‚ And I hope you got a chance to try this tutorial out!! xoxo

  65. Beautiful πŸ™‚ Yesterday I curled my hair after a long long time..I was so hard! I almost gave up πŸ˜€ But no regrets – it was all worth it! Looking forward to the time my hair will be long enough to create something interesting with it πŸ™‚ An you are a really good inspiration πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you so much!!! And I know what you mean! It can definitely be a lot of work πŸ™‚ Thanks for watching!! xo
