I told you guys a little bit ago how we decided to build a home and settle down somewhere where our kids can grow up. You can read more about that if you missed it, here! We prayed and thought about where to live for a long time and always went back and forth between Arizona, Utah, and California. We have family in all three of those places and while in my dream world our entire family on both sides would relocate and all have farms in Connecticut or something.. that probably won’t happen and we love being by our family, so we are going to them. California got thrown out for a couple different reasons, it is definitely the most desirable location (being by the beach ah!) but it doesn’t work out for us at this stage in our lives. So then it was between Utah and Arizona and after looking in Arizona we both had a really good feeling about it. David’s family spends a lot of their summers in Utah so we knew we would be there for summers anyway, and with kid’s school schedules it doesn’t make sense to “winter” in Arizona so ultimately for many many reasons we decided on Arizona! I grew up in Arizona and both of my sisters, parents, grandparents, and cousins live there. We just got our offer accepted on a lot and once that closes we will begin working with our architect. We are doing a custom build so it will be a while until we are actually moving into our home! In fact it will be a few months before we even begin the building process.
My brother in law, Brad, owns his own contracting business and him and my sister renovate other’s homes, buy – fix up – sell homes, build homes, and my sis is a realtor! They are a total dream team. They just renovated their own home and it is the cutest house ever (see a pic here and all their projects, here) so they will be building our home and I am sooo excited. We worked with Becki Owens, she designed a few rooms in our apartment, and we are working with her again on the design of our Arizona home! She is so creative and I love her style and how she puts everything together (her insta here). I have 30 private Pinterest boards currently and have been pinning up a storm, I am so excited for this process.
Wanted to answer a couple questions we have been asked about the move that I have been asked recently……
Q: Why are you going to stop traveling?/Does this mean you are done traveling?
A: Nooo! Our home base will just be different. Traveling is our number one hobby. When we aren’t traveling I am planning itineraries, even if I know we wouldn’t go on the trip for 5 years. I love planning itineraries and love traveling so much. So does David and people are always shocked how well our kids do on flights so I think they love traveling to! Atticus always learns so much, especially since we are out and about seeing and doing things all day. We have some insane trips planned this winter – I am so stinking excited and can’t wait to tell you guys more. We are staying in NYC for the most part until our lease is up – we want to check more things off our bucket list before leaving.
Q: Will you be selling your New York apartment?/Did you ever buy in New York?
A: We had said we were considering buying an apartment a while ago, but at the time there was nothing on the market I felt like I was in love with.. And apartments in New York are a huge investment, I wanted to absolutely fall in love with something. We never did, so we are renting our current apartment.
Q: Will you still be having a cook out/BBQ before leaving? If so, when?
A: Yes yes yes! I said on snapchat maybe a week ago how David and I have been planning a massive game of kickball and a bbq in the park, open to anyone. We are thinking beginning of September – leave a comment if you will be in New York any time late August or early September! OR if you live in New York, leave a comment with which weekend you would want us to do! I will announce on here when we have a date set, it will be so fun.
Q: Why are you always moving?
A: Gooooooood question! I am not sure, its just how it has worked out. Which is partly why we want to build a home and have our home base stay put. Our last apartment just felt so small once we had Rosie so we moved to our current apartment that I am obsessed with. I actually thought we would be here for at least 3 more years but we just feel like this move is right for us. Is what it is I guess… so yeah I guess I don’t have an answer for this question! Just has worked out that way for some reason!
Q: How long until you move in?
A: My guess is at least a year. Like I said we won’t start building for another few months and we are still closing on the lot.
That is all! Let me know if you guys want to see the build out process!! xoxoxo
