Bright skin is what I am always trying to achieve especially after having these crazy hormones in my body and getting dark spots! A lot of you have asked how I got rid of my dark spots and truth be told they come and go. Sometimes I am feeling REALLY good about my skin and think they are gone and then other days they come back full force. It really helps if I keep a good and consistent skin care regimen. And SPF like CRAZZZZY! So today I am sharing some things I do to help keep my dark spots away and also tips to brighten your look once you have make up on! I think its important to feel comfortable without any make up but also to feel pretty and confident with make up. These tricks always help to make me feel a little prettier and can help boost your everyday beauty routine!

  1. Use a white waterproof eyeliner on your lower waterline. I LOVE doing this to make my eyes pop more. It helps a ton to get a waterproof one so you don’t have to keep reapplying. I use this one!
  2. Use a brightening serum religiously. I have been really good about using my brightening serums over the years and I can really tell when I forget to put it on for a week. I have tried a few but have really really loved Caudalie Vinoperfect Serum. I have been applying it every night for a few months now and have noticed really dramatic differences. While there are natural remedies to help brighten your skin, a good serum is definitely most effective. I also love how creamy and light it is so I can wear it under my make up.
  3. Get a good highlighter. I am sure you already know about highlighting and contouring, but even if you aren’t into the contour part (sometimes I don’t love the look of a contour) I still always love to highlight my cheek bones. I think it makes your skin look dewy and bright!
  4. Natural remedies. Like I mentioned, these aren’t as effective as a brightening serum but lemons, potatoes, aloe vera leaf, and coconut water all can help to brighten your skin.
  5. Use SPF like crazy. Nothing will give you dark spots quicker than the sun! Vinoperfect is ideal to layer below your SPF for an even tan because it regulates the melanin the skin leaving you with a more even complexion.
  6. Apply a shimmery shadow to your inner corners. This will help to make your eyes pop and look a little more awake! This is good especially if you didn’t get a good nights sleep.
  7. Exfoliate! Getting rid of all the dead skin will quickly help to give you a nice glow.
  8. Use a shade lighter foundation. Sometimes I like to use a lighter foundation and then add bronzer to my cheeks so the summer glow pops even more.
  9. Drink water. This is an obvious one but drinking lots of water helps keep your skin looking radiant.
  10. Use a setting spray. There are different types of setting sprays – ones that make your face look matte and some that make it look dewy. A dewy one will help make your skin shine!

  1. How are your teeth so white/perfect!? I’d love to know!! I love fun lipstick colors but feel as though I cannot make them work without whiter teeth!!! Gorgeous!

  2. Hi Amber! I love your robe! Where did you get it from? And by the way, I love keeping up with you and your family! Maybe we can meet one day, if I ever get to New York!?

  3. Love your beauty posts!! This might be a long shot, but do you have any suggestions for cosmetic specialtist doctors in Utah who do Botox injections??
    Thanks!!!

  4. I love the vinoperfect serum! Also, I feel your pain about the dark spots! I also really like the Murad rapid age spot and pigment lightening serum. Have you tried that one? What did you think about the two?

  5. Hey Amber! Thank you for sharing your tips 🙂 You’re beautiful! I hope it’s not too late to comment on this post, I was wondering what you do (if anything) to help with dark circles and fine lines under the eyes.

  6. Amber, you look beautiful! What camera do you use? You keep saying you’ll post a blog about it but we are anxiously waiting! haha

  7. I have never used a brightening serum. What is the purpose? Just to refresh the skin or does it rebuild skin cells? I have Rosacea (????) would it be helpful with that? Thanks for taking the time to answer!! I absolutely LOVE how you have always responded to my posts on your blog!! You seem like the sweetest person ever!!!!

  8. I am sorry as I will come off negative a bit…. But firstly I must say, make up or not you look gorgeous. The confusing part to me is when people are thanking you for the tip on using a specific brand that has sponsored this post. It is difficult for me to believe this product works as you’ve described as there is an incentive on your part.

    1. I only share products that I have tried out for myself and LOVE. I get sent products all the time to try and test out no strings attached, so I get excited when I get to share my favorite beauty/skincare products with my readers. Sponsored or not, I would use this product. Blogging is my job and I work hard to share valuable information and reviews. I hope that helps clear up any confusion. I do appreciate the feedback!! xo

  9. Thanks for the tips! I’ve been looking at Caudalie products but haven’t heard very many reviews on them, so this is helpful!

      1. In photo you use a MAC highlighter / skinfinish and the link goes to Tarteist Contour Palette. This serum has such an average formulation. It contains mostly water and slip agents . Bad for the price. You look stunning , you don’t need those crap on your skin.

        1. Beautypedia gave most their products low reviews for this reason. Silly claims with no ingredients to back it up.

  10. Hello! Prompt, whether it is possible to use serum during pregnancy ?
Sorry for bad english , I’m from Moscow.

    1. I am not for sure about that. I didn’t see anything on the website saying it wasn’t!

  11. Such a brilliant post thank you for putting this up. I have been really worried about my dark spots and now the sun has finally arrived in England the serum seems to be the perfect solution. I bought some yesterday so am super happy now, thank you!!!

  12. BEAUTIFUL! I love this look! I was wondering what black eyeliner you use? I would also LOVE to see a post on the many ways you do your winged top liner! 🙂

  13. Thanks for sharing! Do you know if this serum is safe to use while breastfeeding?

  14. *LOVE* the Skin-Brightening Tips Amber! Your pics are inspiring as well…Took notes too! Thx so much! ~alli 🙂 (newbie blogger girl)

  15. Love this post!! I’ve struggled with acne since middle school AND I’m starting to get my first wrinkles, so suffice it to say skin care is a bit of an obsession of mine. I’ve been meaning to try Caudalie products for awhile, although I’m wondering if they’d still be appropriate for someone taking accutane…? Also so interesting about the potatoes! I had no idea!

    Xx Maya from Maya Unmarketed

    1. Thank you so much!! I appreciate that 🙂 And I am not sure about using their products in combination with Accutane, sorry about that! But I can’t imagine it would be an issue, definitely try them out!

  16. Brighter skin is always something I’m striving for! I love your eye makeup tips! I have also started applying Argan oil on my face every night before bed and that helps even out my skin tone!

  21. Hi Amber 🙂 I’ve been following your blog/youtube channel for a while and I think your beautiful little family is precious. It’s contagious to watch ya’ll! Your adorable daughter and son are proof of how beautiful life is, and of the magnificent beauty of our Creator. His works are wondrous.

I wondered if you’ve tried castor oil for the dark spots? I read that they are an amazing, natural remedy for this. You can put it on at night as a great way to give hours for it to soak into the skin; I use it as I have really dry skin.

    Blessings in the Lord! 🙂

    1. Hi Ashley!! Thanks so much for following along, that means so much to me!! And I haven’t tried castor oil before actually, I may need to! Thank you again for the kind words!! 🙂

  22. I’m going to have to try the white eyeliner under my eyes. I know back in 90s when I was in school the “trend” at the time was lining your eye lashes on top with white eyeliner! Ha!

Are you also using your No. 7 foundation in these pics?

    1. I know right?! Light blue and white eyeshadow was all the rage! And yes I am!! Still obsessed with it! 🙂

  23. Do you have a face lotion with spf that you would recommend? I just got a facial and they recommended Eminence but my face had an allergic reaction and made my face all bumpy…it was awful!!! By the way I love you and your family and I’m obsessed with your videos lol 🙂 Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! XO Julianna

    1. I love using Aveeno’s face lotion with SPF, it is goes on so smooth and doesn’t leave a white film. I haven’t tried Eminence before though, so I can’t say about that 🙂 And aww thank you SO much!! That means so much to me! Love ya!! xoxo

  24. I’m obsessed with this serum!!! I’m on my second bottle, and like you said- I can definitely tell when I haven’t used it in a week or so. You look so beautiful in this post!! xo

  25. Any tips on foods to eat (besides water) to brighten skin? Maybe coconut water?

    1. I have heard cucumbers and lemons help brighten skin but I haven’t really tried it out and noticed a difference 🙂 I need to try out coconut water!

    1. You are too sweet!! Thank you so much Natali 🙂 And I definitely need to do that! I have heard lemon helps! Thanks for the tip!!

  26. I love products that brighten skin! Right now I use the Chanel “Le Blanc” Primer before applying my make up and it is a miracle worker in brightening!! 🙂 I’d love to try this Caudalie product!
