This bun is a random hair style I experimented with a couple years ago and I had planned to make an updated tutorial but then got really sick and am just now getting over it so I never did film one but just know one is coming! In the mean time, there is this tutorial I made a couple years ago but honestly all of my old tutorials make me cringe!! Haha I remember filming them in my townhouse filled with 8 girls in college and trying to be quiet so the girls in the room next to me couldn’t hear which results in just awkwardness on film. However, it is done the same only instead of wires, I upgraded to a headband :) which I highly recommend because wires get tangled in your hair way too easy!! I really hadn’t done this bun since then and forgot how much I love this style and how easy it is! My husband also kept telling me that night that it is his favorite so that doesn’t hurt either :)

David and I are headed to Chicago today (its also my birthday, yay!) to host a brunch sponsored by Mia Bossi and Fashionaholic and I am super excited to meet all you girls coming to it! (PS yes, my doctor said I am A-OK to travel!) And it is my first time to Chicago so I am really excited to explore the city and eat some deep dish pizza! Any recommendations on things to do/see/eat – send them my way!!

AND one more thing! I have the winner for the Fashionphile giveaway!! The winner is Rebeca!! I will be emailing you so watch out for an email :) and thanks to everyone who entered, wish everyone could win! xx

  1. Hi!

I just found this style on Pintrest and absolutely love it! I watched the old tutorial but I’m wondering if there’s a way to do it without extensions? My hair is almost to my waist so adding extensions may just make it look ridiculous…thanks!

  2. FYI! Ulta has headbands that are already done in a fishtail or a normal braid. So if someone doesn’t have or want to buy extensions, you can get the headband for I think $10 and wrap that around your bun also 😉

  3. I love everything about this outfit, head to toe!!

  4. I love your shoes, having trouble finding the exact style on the nordstrom website. Could anyone help?
    Thanks! Love your blog, Amber.

    1. They are unfortunately last season so I am not sure they are available anymore :( sorry about that!! Thanks for reading!! xoxo

    1. Thanks girlie!! Glad you liked the tutorial despite my awkwardness haha :)

    1. Thanks girl!! And yes that is a fab idea!! I will definitely do that!! :)

  5. Happy Birthday!! I just flew out to Chicago yesterday too! I’m from there and visiting family :) The Buckingham fountain got turned back on today. Also, go up in the Hancock building and have a drink. It’s a great view of the city up there!! Have fun!!

  6. Remember that time when I tried to tell everyone you already a tutorial for this hairstyle and everyone didn’t believe me! :p Looks great!!
Anyways… Happy Birthday! Hope you had a fantastic day! Twenty four should be an amazing age, right? 😉 (I’m only two months behind than you!). I also hope you have a great time in Chicago. Let me know how it is. My husband wants to visit so badly, but I really want to go to the beach, so … (oh and my husband is a few years older than me too. Nine, actually! Idk why that was so important to tell you and I doubt you care, but I was reading some of the comments on another one of your posts the other day about it). Happy birthday again!

    1. Haha! Yes you were totally right I do!! And thanks soo much for the bday wishes! :) Chicago was AMAZING! Totally exceeded my expectations and is such a must see! But I would probably still pick the beach haha maybe just because I havent been in so long and am dying for sand and ocean! Thanks again for your sweet comment! xo

  7. Happy Birthday!!! Hope you have an amazing day! And enjoy Chicago, I would like to go there someday… I love this hairstyle and maybe tomorrow I ‘ll try one of your tutorials! Xxx

  8. Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish for sure
Kuma’s Corner has the BEST burgers but I’ve heard DMK and Bad Apple are great as well
    Smoque BBQ

I live in the suburbs in an awesome town Libertyville where we have a little downtown with great shops, salons, restaurants, etc. but those are my favorite places to visit in the city

    1. Thanks so much for the recommendations!!! I wish we had more time to do them all but we totally went to Lou Malnati’s and holy crap I about died! So so good!! xoxo

  9. Happy Birthday Beautiful!!! You look stunning with your hair like this and I love you outfit too!! Girl, I am sorry I have not commented lately, life has been too busy, but a good busy ha ha… I surely have kept up with every post, but just did not take the time to say anything, but made sure today you know that I am hoping you do have a special birthday and that your trip to Chicago is a blast! XO

  10. Hi! I just love your blazer & clutch! Both are super cute!! I’ve lived in Chicago for years and love it. Here are some places/thing to do that you might like!

    1. RPM Italian (like another commenter said!) The food is great and it’s a fun scene. Plus Giuliana & Bill are there sometimes!
    2. Lou Malnati’s & Gino’s East are both great for pizza but my personal fav is Uno’s
    3. Portillo’s for italian beef sandwiches
    4. The Girl and the Goat restaurant (Top Chef winner, Stephanie Izard is the chef)
    5. Eatly (usually pretty crowded but very fun to walk around)
    6. Shopping along Michigan Avenue & Rush street
    7. Walks along the lake front (especially if it’s a nice day!!)
    8. the Shedd aquarium
    9. Lincoln Park Zoo (free to walk around!)

Hope you have a great trip & birthday!! :)

    1. Yay thanks so much for all these fab recommendations!! I wish we had more time there but we went to Lou Malnati’s and it was BEYOND! Thanks so much again!! xx

  11. Love the hair and that blazer is just a beautiful color ………..Hope you have a great Mother’s Day….. :)

    1. Thank you Maria!! I hope you had a great Mother’s Day as well! xoxo

  12. Oh, and GT Fish & Oyster is fantastic…unless you can’t eat that stuff while preggers.

  13. I live in Chicago and there are so many great places to eat here. I say skip RPM Italian, it’s highly overrated. The Pump Room is one of my favorite places to dine and drink. It’s in the Public Hotel, which is also my favorite hotel :-) My husband and I “staycation” there when we just want a change of scenery. Eataly is fairly new (haven’t been yet), but I’ve been to the one in NYC several times, so I’m sure it’s worth a visit. I hear ours is bigger than NYC’s :-) Welcome, and enjoy your time in Chicago!

    1. Thanks so much for the recommendations!!! So fun that you live there, it is such a beautiful city!! xoxo

  14. You should go to Frontera Grill on Clark Street! It’s the best Mexican restaurant in Chicago!

    1. Darn I so wish we had more time there and could have tried this! We love Mexican food! but thanks so much for the recommendation!! :)

  15. You HAVE to get Garrett’s Popcorn! That’s our first stop when we go to Chicago and dream about it until we return :) LOVE the outfit! Happy Birthday!

    1. Thanks so much for the bday wishes and recommendations!! So sweet of you!!!

    1. I sent out an email to the winner! So if you got an email you will know :) xo

  16. Happy Birthday! Be sure to eat some gyros/italian beef sandwiches while you guys are in Chicago and take a ride on the L. There is also a place called Russian Tea Time off Michigan Ave that has afternoon tea…it is on the expensive side but worth it! Basically all I do when I go there is eat lol. Enjoy your trip :)

    1. Aw thanks so much for the bday wishes and recommendations!! So nice of you! So sad we didn’t get more time there because I totally added the Russian Tea Time to my list!! Next time for sure! xoxo

  17. Geno’s East…best deep dish pizza hands down…favorite place in the world to go to in Chicago!

    1. K we totally wanted to go here but got lost walking there and ended up going to Giordanos that night instead!! But I hear Geno’s is fab! Next time :)
